Well... it's almost time for me to decide which University I wanna go to.
I am down to two, which were my original two choices: Ryerson and UofT DownTown.
I applied for Computer science... and got reply from both...

I'm confused which one to go for...
This is what I need your help with. RYRSON or UofT???? plz give ur opinion.

Thnx in advance

YourSxyMod. :blah

Rye's Comp Sci is more applied, so you may want to look into that. U of T's, well, it's a good school, but to be honest, most of its programs have gone downhill in the past few years, U of T's Engineering program is still good, but anything else is being beat out by Rye/York. It's upto you, but I'll say one more thing that I love about Ryerson over any of the big schools (I went to York for 2 years), the profs really teach you there (aside from a few bad ones). They also get to know the students, it's nice to walk by the campus and see a prof I had last year and hell, he still remembers me by name! That won't happen much in the bigger schools. I've got a few buddies in Comp Sci @ Rye, but none @ U of T (they're all in engineering), so I know they're happy w/the Comp Sci program @ Rye, plus it's co-op, so if you get the grades in Uni, you'll have nice work experience too, a friend of mine worked @ Nortel back when it was kickin' butt, so that was great for him on the résumé. Good luck w/your choice.

Thanks Eluder 🙂
I'll look more into that... the co-op is what attracts me so much 🙂

Go for it! Plus, next year I'll be 4th year baby, I can show ya around, and if you have any probs, just come to me and I'll kick some butt for ya... LOL.

hehehe.. ALRITE!!! ya i would definately love for someone to show me around and just to make it easier for me... i'm soooo bad with directions 😛

I'll take u on that offer Eluder 😀

Another computer person on this site LOL, if you really want my opinion and your set on going to a university go to ryerson over U of Toronto. They have a better engineering program like eluder said but i wouldn't go for computer science.

oh i see,,, damn, lol.. i'm going crazy here.. my friends are all 50/50 on this.. ah!!
thanks Thereo 😛

anytime, but if you take any advice from me(since you don't really know me) take this:
know matter what anyone tells you, go somewhere where you know you will do well, somewhere you will have fun, not hate cause of whatever reason, because you will be there for 4 years + of you life and if you don't enjoy your environment you won't do well in school as in work. If you don't like where you work you don't work well.

academically, UofT is far superior. I saw the coursework for calculus at Ryerson, and it was a joke. They had no clue how to do derivatives let alone integrals. I don't know much about the computer science programs at either school, but you can't compare UofT's reputation with ryerson's.

Thereo said it best... Each school is diff, better @ certain things. Plus, being an ex comp sci (York) student, I can says, calculus is almost useless in comp sci! I hated it, lol. Chica, I can say what Thereo said about liking school is what got me to goto Ryerson, I hated York w/a passion, once I got to Rye I felt a little akward, but I quickly got into it, and I loved the school, and made some great friends there too... go where you think you'll enjoy it best. To be honest, I've yet to hear from any of my U of T friends that they actually enjoy school. 🙂

oh my God... you guys are so helpful.. *muahz*
Well, I've been to both, Ryerson and Innis College UofT... I liked them both... seriously, that's why I have such hard time deciding where to go.. I liked both.
But I felt as if in Ryerson proffs and students got along better... a friendlier atmosphere.

Meh, I still don't know... I'll go visit them both again... talk to profs there and see which one sounds better... which one can handle me 😛

thanks so much for ur inputs guys, u have no idea how much this is helping 🙂

UofT for tourism??? I wasn't comparing apples and oranges here. and the calculus class was just an example. I can only speak about the business programs because I'm currently finishing my bachelor of commerce at UofT. If you want an easier time and less course work, then go to Ryerson. But like I said, I don't know much about the comp. sci programs.

Hehe, carlita, you know what's funny, I think you're quite wrong about the BComm @ Rye and U of T. I've got friends in U of T Bus Mgt, and friends in Rye Bus Mgt and I can say Rye's load isn't any less than U of T's. Plus, being a BComm student myself (ITM), I can say it's a lot of work, but it's the good profs that make it seem easier. If you actually learn something, you can actually have some fun and not be as stressed out.
