Larry Bird is in trouble right now. It's because of a comment he made on ESPN's Special: Two on Two with Him, Magic Johnson, LeBron, Carmelo. Jim Gray asked Larry is there a lack of White stars in The NBA? Larry Bird said:

" There needs to be more White Superstars in the league. We know whites are the biggest Ticket holders of games. But the fact is, Blacks are the best athletes of the game, period. I got offended when coaches would have white players defend me on the court."

Many are offended by that comment. I find lots of truth in that statement. Blacks are the dominant athlete in The NFL, NBA and even MLB, in which Latinos are the most dominant(a la A-Rod). I see lots of surburban white kids wearing Jerseys of Shaq, Jordan, TO, Jeter. Sports like music is what brings races together. I just think that more needs to be made that: Part of the reasons of The NHL's demise is the lack of diversity with in it's fanbase and players. And Magic Johnson being hired by NASCAR to increase a large Black fanbase with the sport.

I find race relations better than 20 or 30 years ago despite The OJ, Rodney King and Eddie Bauer situation and American Idol mess. I see lots of white kids in upperclass Suburbs embrace Hip Hop culture. Lots of White girls Aare big fans of actresses like Halle Berry and J-Ho. I think many kids of today unless their parents are The KKK or Nazis, the see talent other than color.

What are your thoughts on Larry Birds statement?

Yea I can definitely see him in trouble after that statement, but I don't think Larry meant to hurt anyone with by stating that!

The majority of the people who are offended are white athletes. They feel that Larry Bird is trying to say that whites are not good in Basketball due to his comment about being offended by having white guys check him on the court. Hey, the deal about sports is, who cares about the color. The real deal is the jersey on the athlete. hey, Larry Bird and Magic John saved The NBA in 1979; a year when The NBA was in worst shape than The NHL is today. CBS put the finals on after The 11:00 news in the 70's, attendance was not growing, there was a Urban myth about The NBA having more drugs than Sudio 54, they fought more than Muhammad Ali. Both LeBron and Melo needs to both Kiss Magic and Birds and MJ's butt They made The NBA what it is today!!

That white athletes are offended or not, Bird is correct in his statements (just as Jimmy The Greek was correct in his). One can argue why that is (is it because not enough white guys get into basketball nowaydays?). Now for the sake of Political Correctness: Should Bird have made these remarks in public? Absolutely not! He's taking a big chance with his career.

In a way, Bird was giving props to Black athletes. The NBA has become an equal oppertunity. Hey, many may not agree with the statement. In Indiana(his homestate) is not offended, Many blacks are not offended by the statement. Sports is to bring together races and culture. That's what make sports great!!!
