My Problem With Clubs

I use faithfull club goer. But I stopped going to the club. For few reasons. One all my high school friends married off. Big reason.

Two I was getting to tired to dance the hole nite. At 34,.,., after 15 yrs of club going it catches up.

And Three not enough club music. Freestyle. ! I had no problem with girls. Use to hook up a lot.


But the music was killing me. Hip hop,.,. Rap,.,., goofy mixxes,.,.,.,. in short nothing that would have been heard of during the 80’s.

Im use to club freestyle. House some stuff from today.,.,., some transe. and some new 103.5 music.

etc,.,.

but in the end,.,.,.,.if the club places all its cards on hip hop rap,.,., it lost me. and as the years passed it lost me. Alot of people say """oh yeah whats wrong with you,.,,.,.,. go to this club go to that club,.,.,.,.,.,.they play plenty of freestyle,..,,.,.,.,.,.,.,.go here go there,.,.,..,,..,,.they have """"""""freestyle nights""""""""",.,.,.,.,. they have club,,.,.""nites"",.,,.,.,.

Bull there version of freestyle club nights,.,..,is maybe 5 songs,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,..,and then back to this crap we have these days.,.,,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.

There have been times a few in 15 plus years of clubbing,.,.that i have gone to club and heard like 7 freestyle songs in a row,.,. like seeing a freekin rainbow,.,..,


and then gone a year without hearing anything,.,,..,.,.,,.

I'd like to know dam it is there a club,.,.,.,. that plays club freestyle the hole night !!!!!!! No rap.,,.,.,.no hip hop,.,.,. no anything.

but club house,.,., freestyle,.,.,. go club mixxes like back in the day,.,.,.,. and some transe maybe,.,..,,.,.,.

But basically what im getting at Is a Place where Hip hop Rap,.,. and any hot 97 music feeels like a stranger.,.,,.,. and like a guest,.,.,.,.,.

and maybe you hear 2 or 3 raps songs,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.

and a place where club freestyle,.,.., dosnt feel like a stranger,..,,..,.,.,.,

a place where the tables ""are turned"" if there was a place like that id go ,.,.,..,even by myself,.,.,.,.,.


but theres no place i dont think where you can gurantee me,.,.,.,.,.,. 30 house freestyle club and transe songs.,,.,. all nite.,.,..,

with maybe 3 or 4 rap songs,.,.,.,.,.., when people got to go to the bathrooom,.,.,.,.,.,.lllolll,.,.,.hahaha,..,.,.,,..,,.,..,.,.,.,,.,.

but i gotta tell you i left the club cuase i could nt go through anymore,..,,.,.,.

You know in miami they have a private club for peopel who thing they are to good to club with everyone else,.,.,. although,,.., the reason,.,. is insulting,...,. the idea,..,would work for us,..,.

why cant we .,,..,contribute,.,., 10 bucks a month,.,.., to keep a private club going? just an idea? maybe we'd

pay ???? 500 bucks for 5 years?????????????? we get 1000 people ,.,.,.,.,.

Clubbing is so overrated. Taking it back 4 years ago, I'd be the first one to say "let's go clubbing", but it's not like it used to be when I was in my early 20's, etc.....grant it, I still go out, but I'm very selective about where I go, and who I go with. Fast forward to 2004, clubs today are ridiculous. I don't see why or how so many of you pay a $15, $20 cover charge to begin with. As if like that's the only spot in town. I don't pay cover charges, I work around them. Drinks are so damn expensive...you can get a bottle of Capt. Morgan for $18.....whereas clubs charge $10 for a watered down rum and coke. However, every club has a different theme. If you don't like Hip Hop, there are clubs that cater to people like you, people that appreciate Dance/Club/House. Personally, I'd rather hear a lil' bit of everything all in the same night, too much Hip Hop or House, even Freestyle can get old....not to mention boring and stale. Don't get me started on Reggaeton.

yo i am 42 and listen to hip hop and rock jazz various dance including freestyle even listen to country some times and as far as the clubs i have learned to adapt its about having a good time and letting loose for a few hours

I hear you man, I'm 28 years old, and I remember back in 93' 94', the club scence in the bay was hot, they use to play that "Take me in your arms" and "Memories", and although they played 1 to 3 tracks in that whole night, I must admit it was a good feeling to be at a club while they playing freestyle, but later on down to road that noised was killed because there was a dry season for freestyle (quality freestyle), but we had our moments here with the buzz of Angelina, M:G, Spanish Fly and so forth, but I guess most club scence plays only what's new and hot, and this goes back to cateriing to the younster's wants, I'm sure if there was a hard hitting freestyle artist we would at least here thier tracks being slipped in with today's Hip Hop, and Rap. What we need is some more dope ass freestyle artists/production and the whole nine to put out quality freestyle out there so that we can at least here it being played once in a while at the club. It's a little that means so much!

Well, I'm a lil' younger than you rbonuc29, but I have been clubbing for 15yrs too.
Yes the club scene gets old, but like CarliTo said, it's all bout where you go, & who you're with. I Myself wish there was a club like you stated, you are not alone, but the truth is, there are only certain "nights" that do that.

I'm from up north, but now live in Florida, & I must say Florida seems to cater more to Freestyle than any other place. It's never really died here.

Like others posting here, I as well like a mix of everything. I love my oldskool & newskool Hip-hop, Dance, Rock, whateva.
To tell you the truth, the clubs that play alot of Freestyle, House, & Trance/Dance, seem to primarily be the Gay clubs. & Most of these clubs are packed EVERY week.

One reason I HATE to go out at times is because of, .....CIGARETTES!!!
Smoke, & people smoking, drives me UP-THE-F***ING-WALL!!!!!!! One reason I rarely go out.

But many of the clubs I go to (or have gone to) have like 3 different rooms:
The main room usually plays House, Tribal, Breaks, & Trance.
2nd room: Latin music, Salsa, Meregue, Bachata, Oldskool Freestyle & Reggaeton.
3rd room: Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae, & Booty/Bass jamz.

Along with suprise-attack "clear the stage" performances by some of the hottest Female Impersonators (drag queens), & their dancers. Usually doing a Poundin' House song, or an 80's Freestyle/Breakdance medley, complete with breakdancers & special effects. - The crowd goes nuts!!! (Many Freestyle artists frequent these clubs & perform at them as well).

With diverse themes & music, & a diverse crowd, (straight & gay, male & female) of all backgrounds, & a positive energy, it turns into a pretty kool night, & everyone's united & happy. Many clubs out here are like that. (I wish they all were!)
It's the only clubs you get to see Thug's, wild College chicks, Goths/Punks, Gays & Drag Queens, older people & younger people, all melted together having a good time.
Which is what were supposed to be doing at these places.

Maybe you just need to try some different clubs. 🙂

clubs will play freestyle if they have some good new freestyle to play....in 96 angelina was resurecting freestyle or at least revevelutionizing freestyle and any thing else thatr came out was getting play as well. Then what? Freestyle Music fizzed out again so its getting no play........."If You build it....They will come" 😉

I really don't understand why they don't play Freestyle more, because when a DJ playing Hip-Hop or the new stuff busts out with an oldskool track at a club or party, ...lets say (for example) :
Debbie Deb's "When I Hear Music"
Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam's "Can U Feel The Beat"
or TKA's "Maria"

The crowds all get crazy & cheer "Hoooo!!!!"
Even if it's only ONE Freestyle song for that whole night, they love it.
Yet, to most people, ...our music isn't sufficient enough. (Oh Plzz!)

Its the DJ's Job / profession to move the crowd and work the crowd accordingly. he looks out and see's whos in the crowd. What ages, what ethnicities, etc. then he makes his jugdment` on what to spin. Also it depends on what he brought for his set. Sometimes you can ask for some freestyle and they be like "I left it at home" if its a younger crowd...anticipate LiL Jon, and J-Z. if its older he will try his best to keep you on the dance floor. also......MAKE REQUEST!!!! just like a radio station, The DJ will begin to see whats in demand..and eventually play it. Dont be afraid to talk to the DJ...they love it (as long as hes not in the middle of a mix) and if its a newer DJ....well chances are he dont even know what freestyle is. I think its stupid that they play exactly whats on every radio station and MTV. but it is what it is.....its up to you (us) as freestylers to make things happen people...Ive said this before and I will say it again....No one else cares.....were the ones so speak up and represent! Its not gonna come back by it self. We must take the inititive and sTEP TO THE PLATE. Who else cares about freestyle except the freestylers? Dont be silent, Represent! PCE!!

Rbonuc29, Hi :hithere , hope u get this post. I feel u a bit on the music (msc) they play @ the clubs. From my side being a single mom and working 2 jobs its hard for me to go out. I get out when I can. Besides that I'm a msc luvr of all msc, who luvs 2go club'n. I was convicted to write, I don't know 100% y, but didn't want u to completely give up on club'n. Though, when you get to be our ages and been club'n for years it looses it's appeal. You've been to one club you've been to them all. It's the same scene, people hard up trying to hook up. What ever happened to actually dancing for the sake of dancing for the luv of msc. That's my bag & I'm stick'n 2it. Any hoo, back 2 the situation @ hand. FYI:2 what was said b4, it's all where u go. Not sure ur exact location is, but if u can make it to N.Y.C. my 2 fav places are Webster Hall (WH) and Culture Club(CC). WH espec. on Thurs. is ladies nite. For girls and guys it's free from 10-11. If guys pay it's only $10. Same deal on Sat. WH has an 80's room and they play a few freestyle songs, but is always worthwhile to speak 2 the dj-done it b4 and usually u get ur request filled. Also @ WH has multiple rooms/floors w/ diff. msc. That's why I luv WH and is my #1 club. Plus on Thurs. there is a show for girls and boys, then later Vic Latino from KTU does the "Wet T-Shirt and Wet Willy" contests. But if you want total exclusive Freestyle msc it is Culture Club. It's an 80's dance club in the Village. The 1st floor is all 80's and some 90's music. Especially on Fridays, about 11pm-12am they open they 2nd floor which is 100% Pure Freestyle. Their mixes are pretty good. It's a mini freestyle paradise. XXX

C.B.- U gotta admit tho, the Gay clubs usually do a goob job of catering to everyone. I've been to some thugged out spots where it's strictly Hip Hop- Old and New, R&B, Reggae, and Vocal/Diva House.....and we work it. If I'm feeling Retro or Punk....I know just where to go. My tastes is just like the weather- unpredictable. But regardless of where I go, I have a good time or at least I try to. It has nothing to do with age or location.
