My First Freestyle Concert and Friend
By Ayza

It was the Summer of '96 if I remember right at The Low Rider Car Show.
It was the first time I was able to go to a concert without my mom's nagging.
I was so excited that my favorite singer in the whole world was
going to be in concert.

Johnny O and Judy Torres were also performing in the same show.
But I was really there for one reason that day and that was to
hear Cynthia's songs.

I had my friend pick my up at 7:30 am, because I wanted be
there before the park opened. When I got in I looked for the stage
to make sure I found the best spot. There was a perfect theater
like stage, with huge speakers that were guaranteed to annoy any
neighbor within a three block radius.

They took the music to a level that to this day I haven't been able
to experience at any club or concert.

Judy Torres was the first Freestyle act on stage.
Her performance was nothing less than spectacular.
Her voice was magnificent and almost magical.

Johnny O was nothing short of spectacular himself.
Those who have seen him perform know that his performance
is nothing but high energy.

Cynthia came out after Johnny and I was so excited to see her that
I almost lost my voice in the first minute. After her first song she
pointed at me and said "This girl came prepared for my show" I just screamed,
"hell yea!!" I was so excited about being able to see her in concert that I
didn't mind the heat of South Florida. After she finished I made my way to
the side. The security guard told everyone that she wasn't going to sign any
autographs. About 5 minutes later I saw her and her dancers with their bags
hurrying to leave. She looked to the side and saw me and went back quickly to
get a pen. She signed a total of 5 autographs 3 to me one for a little girl and
one to this guy. As she was there I told her how much I love her music, and in her
NY accent she said, "girl I can tell!" I told her that I can't wait for her next
concert and since that day I haven't missed a performance.

Since that day I have thought of her as a close friend. She might not remember
but I certainly do. In the beginning I thought of her as a mega star bigger then Madonna
or Michael Jackson, but just like a big sister she brought me down to earth. A couple
months later at another performance we sat down and started talking.
She told me, "I know how you see me." "You think I wake up at 2 or 3 in the afternoon
and go out with Lissette Menedez or Safire and go shopping for our performances."
I said, "Yes, you're Cynthia!" She told me,
"Yes I am Cynthia, but I have a full time job up in New York."
"What will happen the day that they are not buying my music anymore?"
I said that would never happen. She smiled and said,
"You're a big fan and I appreciate your support, but it might happen."

By this time we had talked a couple times and she knew that I wanted to get
into the business. She gave me the best advice, which I follow to this day,
"Make sure you go to school and get an education," and I am doing just that.

She has been my all time favorite artist and always will be. She has given me advice
and been the sweetest, nicest person to me. Her music has gotten me through many rough
situations. What I like to know is how many others have been touched by her or any other
freestyle artists. I'd like to know your stories.

Please send me your stories at icyhot557@netzero.net I would love to hear them.
Till next time, New York you live in my Heart. Keep Freestyle Alive.

Kenny no it wasnt. He performed later that year. I hung out with him and Cynthia at the Camio Theater. I was upset at him at the time but he maded up to me. I was Backstage wtching the performance backstage and he came up to me and said this is for you as they started Dreamboy/Dreamgirl. The next time he performed was in Late 2000 or Early 2001 here in south Florida.
I cant wait to see him perform again down her in south florida we are waiting for him.

WOW. Your story. :( It's so touching! I love and adore Cynthia! It must of been an honor to see such a fantastic female singer in person. I adore her songs all the way! The song Endless Nights is the one that I cannot get enough of.

Beautiful story. Thank you.

I also agree and hope if all things go the right way, that Johnny O will come back strong, or stronger than ever, even though his work in the past has been great enough. I adore his songs soo much!

I love his voice, his singing, everything about the fella is what I want to hear when I listen to music in my home!

When I clean and want to be happy chillin, singing in my home, I listen to Johnny O...when I move my TV and equipment, Cynthia is there to motivate me!

God bless all these spectacular and great artists, and it's such an honor for many of them to come back and create more music for the fans. Me a huge one!
