Clear Channel has pulled the plug on what is arguably the last South Florida radio station linked to Freestyle. Mega 103.5 is no more!!! It has switched its format to HiP HoP and will now be known as WMIB, 103.5 The Beat. According to Glenn Garvin of the Miami Herald, several Mega staffers were informed that they were being let go.

We all know what this means for South Florida Freestylers!! All we have now is Salsa's Street Party at noon (daily lunch mix).

I would like to say that my heart goes out to those that lost their jobs at Mega. I wish nothing but the best to Al Chio, Tony Banks, Lady D, Myriam Masihi, James McDaniel and Ovidio of the promotions department and everyone else who was so kind to me.

I can assure you, all the above were for Freestyle but obviously the powers that be were not.

Sadly,

Mike

That sucks!!! We have enough hip hop stations in South Florida.
But 98.3 has started plaing more freestyle, even when its not the "lunch mix"
They are the only station left!!!🙁

well we only have one station up here.....its all we have had for years...

yeah and even the station we do have plays euro, trance, hip hop, pop and rock but its mostly euro but i guess a bit of freestyle here and there and our one hour on sundays is nothing to complain about

YES,IT'S VERY SAD

i grew up with a lot of those other broadcasters, even went to broadcasting school with some of them, hopefully it won't take them long to get back on there feet.and as far as mega goes,IT'S A DAM SHAME TO GET RID OF THAT STATION,I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST HIP HOP,BUT WE HAVE TOO MANY OF THEM HERE,:mad :realsad :realsad :sosad...........vapro

Just remember whoever is left. Dont just think it's magic.
Call the stations Show them your Support. Call!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Email - Whatever it takes Show Them Freestyle Fans Exist.
You have control.

Clear Channel can SUCK IT!!!!!!!! :mad

The last really great dance station has been pulled!!:mad

But it has seemed like those Jamin Oldies stations has had bad success. Almost 90% of them with it's 5 year existence has been pulled off the air.

that really sucks!

i was down in miami in may and had 1035 on everyday as i drove around in the sun. i loved the station, it was so great to hear freestyle music outside of new york. it took me back to the time i first went to miami in 88. great feeling.

THEY CAN KISS MY ASS!! LOL IMMA START MY OWN RADIO STATION IN MY TRUK!! IM GETTIN BIG ASS STEREOS AND MIC'S LOL AND IMMA BUMP MY FREESTYLE ALL AROUND TOWN

oh man.. say it aint sooo...today in the morning i turn my car on and i hear missy elliot singing. You cant blame them though, Hip hop is what miami wants to hear... Anyways, we still have power 96 5 oclock traffic jam.. if you request it, they'll play it.
😀

thats too bad u miami freestylers, i can't believe how much freestyle's gotten worse for you guys.

Damn. Miami was one of the first places I can recall hearing Freestyle way back in 1986. Miami became my heart. I had to be 9 years old and I was living at Homestead Air Force base. We had just moved from Soundview PJ's in the Bronx. First night I arrived in Miami, I'm searching the radio for something that I was familiar with. What do you know, Lisa Lisa's "Can You Feel The Beat" is playing and although I wasn't in NYC anymore, I knew everything would be okay. Damn, if I can go only go back to that time........

Hey!
I've been thinking.. i've been trying to get a slot in the FIU radio station.. 88.1FM
so that i can play freestyle music.. i know alot of people who admire it in the station.. theres alot of rules to it though, but i know it would be good if i can do it.. hopefully by march.. It hurts alot man, but it only lights the fire for me

I would imagine that it would be tough for promoters here in MIA to find a station willing to plug a FS concert or to do a joint production/concert. Not only do promoters have one less station though which to promote a concert, but they've also lost perhaps the only local station willing to do a barter/joint concert.

THIS MEANS THE POSSIBILITY OF FREE FS CONCERT ADS HAS DISAPPEARED!

RIGHT? I don't know enough about the business so opinions are welcome.

I just wish AL Chio and everyone else at MEGA land work very very soon!

We are in desperate need of a TKA & George Lamond concert!!
Maybe 98.3 can sponsor it, I think they would get a great response.
