I was shocked to hear somewhere on this forum that someone from the label distributing Lil Suzy's recodings was confirming that they were recommending for her to record under her name Suzanne Casale because they felt that the artist name "Lil Suzy" was no longer appropriate.
In my opinion, I think it only takes a buncha inexperienced people in an independent label to make certain decisions that some people, like myself, may at times find totally innapropriate and irrational.
Lil Suzy is not only a talented singer, but it is also a branded artist name with a distinct sound and a strong followship. Lil Suzy is no longer "little" nor does it stand for a debut teenager entering the market. Many major labels such as Sony, Warner and EMI have lots of untalented millionaire " lils" in their artist rosters. How old are Lil Kim, Lil Mo and the lil joe shmoes of the major labels?
It is unfortunate that Lil Suzy is not ditributed by a major label that will put some sense into her management team and some of the choices that they may be projecting for her. Lil Suzy has a major following in north america, especially here in Canada, although that fan loyalty is not always rewarded with retail sales. This stems from the weak resources of her current label who cannot propel her stardom to the next level, let alone consitently put her records on store shelves or even insure their availability with online vendors. Nothing against Viper, I think that they have been a leader in the US freestyle movement for the past years, but reality is that they only have a tiny handful of artists with any type of national potential aside of course, from the very lucky association with Lil Suzy, her branded name, fan base and catalog.
Susanne, I hope that you come to your senses and not let anyone mess with your talent and fan base that you have worked so hard to attain over the years under your artist name "Lil Suzy". It is not the same as "little suzy", now that would have been a different story. I demand that they "TREAT YOU RIGHT"! Also, all my friends and I will travel to Toronto and see you at the invasion in November. Keep up the great work!
Best Regards,
gb
