well i heard a rumor from some people that they are makin a new cd but then again u know how rumors r ;/
Legacy
Only Jesse Settle is in Prison, serving a twenty-year sentence for murder and armed robbery.Another member of Legacy also was involved, but he eventually was not charged.Apperantly is was a drug-deal gone bad, and they took out their anger on this guy, for apperently ripping them off.The other member of Legacy, Juanie, still resides in the Chicago area, but is out of the music buisness, and is raising a family.
Legacy was at the fore-front of the Chicago freestyle explosion of 1993.Their hit "Girls do it just for fun" recieved tremendous air-play on Chicago's premier pop-station B-96;After it received heavy air-play by Chicago freestyle DJ Tim "Spinnin"Schommer during the weekend Street Mix program.Their follow-up "Stay With Me Tonight" also recieved heavy rotation play on B-96, at the time Making Legacy a Chicago Phenomenon.Their sucess was short lived though, due in part to a combination of the group itself not really attempting to build on their reginolsucess(members faulted their record company DJ internationol for ineffective management decisions) and the demise of Freestyle air-play on regular rotation on B-96.Their last release was "Tonight, The time is right"released in late 1994, hardly made an impact in theChicago radio and freestyle scene.To Legacy's credit,Their sucess in being able to break into the radio market, paved the way for some great freestyle to be released out of Chicago.Law(Love and Wisdom) released three singles to critical sucess between 1994 and 1996."One more Chance for Love", "Remember The Times", and "Missing Your Love", all garnered not only reginol sucess and airplay, but also found their way to New York, Miami, and the West Coast.Rochell's(spelling) "Praying for an Angel" also was soon released out of Chicago, as well as Issac's "In My Heart" also courted tremendous air-play.As well as new music being released, a number of new record labels started to pop-up in Chicago, Strictly-Hype,Za-Za, were justone of many record labels trying to capetlize on Freestyle's emergence in to the pop-radio markets.So the "Legacy" of the trio of Legacy is, probaly not in their music, but in the doors of oppurtunity their music were able to create. Unfortunatley, They are both still in the pokey..I miss them; I was lucky to work with them for 1 summer and hang out with through out the years afterwards. Unfortunately I dont have any pics to prove. All 3 came to my house and we commuted back and forth to Jessie's house on the weekends with their manager Laz Calderon. Did one trial track slow freestyle track for Chicago's annual Fiesta Del Sol around 1992 or 93 or 94 been so long.. I hung out with them the summer that Tony Moran had the "Lover" song out in full swing. They were with me when I completed unreleased song of "Cant Go On" by another local artist called Raymond Z. Which had a lot of air play at Harv Roman show on Sunday Freestyle show on WCYC 90.5..This was going to be an equivalent to George Lamond style music of "Withou You". Raymond was young and a voice like no other..however..he had bigger dreams in becoming a Hip Hop artist and dumped the freestyle seen. He is now Chicago Police officer. Going back to Jessie and Javi write to them and say hello..they are cool guys dudes.
I know of jessie's incarceration, but as far as Javi, there is a Javier Roman listed in the Illinois Department of Corrections website, but it's not the same Javi from Legacy.Unless it's been so long, that my judgment is really bad.Please correct me on this.The Javiar Roman listed in the site is only 25, and that would have made him 13 or 14 when Legacy was recording and performing.Like I said I might be incorrect, and I would appericate you helping me with this.I often run into Rocky Jones, the head-guy at DJ Internationol records(Leagacy's record company) and he told me once last year that he was going to try and release a Legacy CD, with remixes and a bunch of other stuff, and donate profits to the guys.But it has been over a year since I seen him.And I don't know if the project ever got off the ground.

hey courts I tried looking Jessie Settle name on the IDOC website and its not there. I was interested in writing a letter. The music of legacy is great and especially being from a burb of chicago and listening to B96 at the time which you described so well in your previous post I wanted to show legacy some love for the great music. Hey Courts do u know alot about the Chicago Freestlyle scene do you know Troy Guy or Mario?

Jessie Settle is the name listed as the name in the Illinois Department of Corrections.Just do an inmate search and his name and picture will come up.Like I said, jessie's a fine young man who made a tremendous mistake.And he would love to hear from all you freestyle fans.I wrote him a number of times, and wiil do it again, and since we had a previous history(I promoted a couple of Legacy shows) he was really happy to hear from me.I even sent him a couple of freestyle CD's.When your incarcerated, I can only imagine the trenmendous joy it is to recieve mail from family or fans.So, it would be really nice if you guys could take ten minutes out of your day and write to him.I'm sure he will do everything in his power to try and write back to you guys.As far as "the girls do it just for fun" version will Joel, it was good, but when it was rerecorded and released with DJ Internationol, the Tim"Spinnin"Shommer club mix was really the one that put it on the map.And if you guys know anybody who would tape the B-96 street mixes back then, there are a bunch of Tim Schommer mixes where the guys from Legacy would come on and do a bunch of extra verses , promos, raps, and a bunch of other stuff with Tim for his mixes, those are worth their weight in gold.I have them in my basement somewhere.I think what made that time so special, and it's something you probaly won't ever see again.Is a couple local kids, being able to record their music and having it played on the biggest sation in the city, in one of the bigest cities in the counrty.In today's music market. It's unlikely that you will ever see that.

I just have to tell this story for Mr.Freestyle and Smedina,since their Chicago members, and I do miss that city, I tried sending it in a PM, but it contained to many charchters.
They use to have this fest on the lakefront named the Pan-American Festival, I'm not sure if they still have it.Well, in 1992, I was attending it with my buddy.The B-96 concert at the fest had George Lamond, I think Judy Toress, etc....They also had this rap group named the Two-Young Brothers, they were from Hillside.They were a couple of white-boys who could really rap and dance. I'm not sure what happened to them.
Well after the show, we were back-stage and we ran into a friend of ours, his name was Charlie Baby(babie), I'm sure you have heard of him.He had just moved to chicago from New York to start a record label(his label would release Rochell's "Praying For An Angel" in 1994) and he was staying with a buddy of ours, who lived out in Hoffman-Esates, If I remember Correctly.Well, we ran into Tim Schomer, and he said he would give us a lift back to the Cummberland Metra station of I-90.He had a friend who had this big Suburban, and they were with Juanie from Legacy.Well we all walk back to the Suburban, but it had been towed.We called the wrecker that towed it and they wanted something like two-hundred dollars to get it out, becuase it was parked in a fire zone.Between the 6 of us we had something like 92 dollars, and remember this 1992, before debit cards and ATM's.So we just decided to take the L back to union station, and ride the Metra back to the Suburbs.So, we hop on the L, and most of us are pretty wasted from drinking. So all of a sudden the train stops, and none of us realised we where on the other side of Comisky Park, way down south.Somebody put us on the wrong train.And the train broke down.So they tell us that there will be a bus that will take us back downtown, we just had to walk a mile or so.keep in mind, it's like 1 in the morning already.So, where walking, it's me, my buddy, Charlie Babie, Juanie from legacy, Tim Scommer, and Tim's friend.As were walking this car full of girls passes by, and Juanie yells at them.They turn around and come back and he starts talking to them. Not even a minute passes by when another car passes by with some guys in it, and the guy yells something at the girl in the car. It was her boyfriend.The guy get's of the car, and screams something and says he's going to kill all of us, to which Tim Schommer replied, and if you know Tim from the radio, you know he's a smart-ass,hey, he's the one hitting on your girl, kill him.The guy get's out his car and pop's his trunk, and we all ran like hell.I just remmebr being in front, maybe cause i was the youngest, but i ran into this Fried Chicken Place, and Charlie, Tim and his buddy, were right behind me.i remmebr one of them said he pulled out a tire jack, and the other said that it was a rifle.As we where waiting we seen the guy past by, and we all ducked.We were waiting to see where my buddy and Juanie were, and maybe like a minute later, we see them running by.We all waited in the resteraunt, for half an hour, before a bus finally came by.I jusy had to tell you guys that story.I still keep in touch with some of those guys.

I just became a new dad and didnt want to commit to contracts, anyway she got booed at a nightclub when she came on stage with a big bee hive hair do..she is one sexy mamasota ..ouch..rumor had it her and Charlie were serious of each other..dont know. Anyway..I didnt sign with Mike Hernandez and his Pandamonium company contract..to this day still have all the paperwork...I just didnt want to be tied down to an exlcusive elusive contract at that time. 2 Young Brothers you mentioned rapped "Check out the Hook" Produced by my old friend Onofrio Lollino, who also produced "Sweet Rose" by First Class (Freestyle song) ..kick ass song I may add. He also did "Praying for Angel" bonus track, 'Hey fat Boy" by 20 fingers, and the infamous "Short Dick Man" by Gillette, ironically me and my friend referrred her to Charlie and Onofrio cuz she couldnt sing one of our songs sounded like a sheep..and they turn around and make "short Man" ..Onofrio a popular producer and still resides in Chicago area..dont know if he still does music though..i think he retired after he got married. Julio from Law stays in touch with Tim Schommer whom I never met personally. I left the freestyle scene when "Praying for Angel" came out. Someone mentioned the original Legacy with Joel and Jessie..they first appeared as a new act at the Prime and Tender on Harlem Ave around 1989 or 90 , with main attraction of George Lamond. His first visit to Chicago..also on the card was IN EFFECT (Forever Amor)...I wittnessed it all and thats when I first met Jessie and Joel. Harv Roman was the MC for the show.
Yeah, I just had to Mention"The Two Young brothers", cause i was actually blown away by their MC, I was neverinto rap, but that guy ws good.I remmebr him telling us that night that they were going to sign with Arista, but I'm not sure what happened.Yeah, TwentyFingers, they released good music, they even got Gillitte, on MTV during spring Break, one year.With those ridiculous songs, short man, and there was another.
