Kanye West Calls for End to Gay Bashing

The Associated Press
Thursday, August 18, 2005; 8:53 PM

NEW YORK -- Kanye West says "gay" has become an antonym to hip-hop _ and that it needs to be stopped. During an interview for an MTV special, the 27-year-old rapper launched into a discussion about hip-hop and homosexuality while talking about "Hey Mama," a song on his upcoming album, "Late Registration."

West says that when he was young, people would call him a "mama's boy."

"And what happened was, it made me kind of homophobic, 'cause it's like I would go back and question myself," West says on the show, "All Eyes on Kanye West," set to air Thursday night (10:30 p.m. ET).

West says he changed his ways, though, when he learned one of his cousins was gay.

"It was kind of like a turning point when I was like, `Yo, this is my cousin. I love him and I've been discriminating against gays.'"

West says hip-hop was always about "speaking your mind and about breaking down barriers, but everyone in hip-hop discriminates against gay people." He adds that in slang, gay is "the opposite, the exact opposite word of hip-hop."

Kanye's message: "Not just hip-hop, but America just discriminates. And I wanna just, to come on TV and just tell my rappers, just tell my friends, `Yo, stop it.'"

West, whose debut disc "The College Dropout" won a Grammy for best rap album, will see his second record in stores on Aug. 30.

Kanye is what we need in a time of all these b.s rivalries in music we have today!

Tangita you didnt see his interview with sway on MTV where he spoke about Gay being the opposite of Hip-hop because of how anti gay the Hip-Hop industry is how since he grew up without a father his mannurisms weer that of his Mothers, since he had no male role model to look up to his attitude became the one of who he saw which was his Mother which in turned got other kids calling him gay etc etc and he didnt like that so he himself became homephobic because of that ended up rolling iwth the wrong crowd to seperate himself form that then ended up finding out one of his closests cousins was gay and sat back and basically re-evaluated how he felt because he couldnt hate his cousin. It changed his whole attitude and it is why he speaks the way he does. it was a good interview.

http://www.dapslyrics.com/display.php?sid=15758

here's the chorus which is my fave:

Now I aint sayin she a gold digger (When I'm Need)
But she aint messin wit no broke niggaz
(She did me wrong)
Now I aint sayin she a gold digger (When I'm need)
but she aint messin wit no broke niggaz
get down girl go head get down (I gotta leave)
get down girl go head get down (I gotta leave)
get down girl go head get down (I gotta leave)
get down girl go head:listen

Ok I am listening to it right now and I got to say I am deff feeling the CD but if I have to choose between this one and his first I go with his first. There are some real good tracks here of course Diamonds( I like the remix with Jay Z),Gold Digger feat. Jaime Foxx, Drive Slow fea. Paul Wall & GLC, My Way Home feat. Common, Crack Music feat. Game and Keysha has some vocals on the song, We Majo feat, Nas & Really Doe,Hey Mama. Its not as fun as his first CD and he is all over the place with his choice of Production, lots of strings horns, pianos etc. It deff isnt the norm in Hip-Hop which is why it is worth copping if you want change somethign with a bit more substance then the usual watered down hoes and bling and fancy cars its deff worth buying. He is deff tryign to change the state of Hip-Hop 🙂

That song is the bomb, I love it; Kanye is very talented. :fkinaman
