I just did something I thought I would never do. I just quit my job. I'm supposed to go in and have a meeting with my boss tomorrow, but I highly doubt that will change anything. As most of you know, I really do love my job as an EMT, even with all the crazy hours and everything. But this weekend, I just reached my breaking point. Everyone has been working double or triple shifts since last week when the war started, and it's literally tearing everyne apart. Hardly anyone has gotten any sleep, and there's been tension between everyone since we're all so stressed. This weekend, I was off on Sunday from my other job, and Saturday night I'm getting ready to go out and work beeps me to come in and work a double shift. Granted I was mad that I wouldn't be able to go out, but I figured no big deal I'm used to it. Then Monday when I was supposed to get off shift, they were trying to get me to stay, and I couldn't because of school. My boss was actually trying to get me to stay and work another 12 hours instead of going to school. Then today, he practically reamed me for not staying yesterday! So as calmly as possible, I told him that I cannot take this anymore and that I need a break and that I'm handing in my resignation. My boss is pissed cause we just lost 2 people last week when they quit cause of him.

As I said, I'm scheduled to go talk to him tomorrow, but I don't see myself going back there. I love my job, but the added stress and aggrevation to deal with from an ass of a boss is not worth it. Thankfully I still have my other job, but that's only on weekends, and not really going to pay my bills, so it's time to start looking for a new job. Hopefully I can get in with another ambulance company, or even be an EMT in the emergency room of a hospital. I've been were I was for almost 4 years and I still can't believe I quit.

damn meggy, sorry to hear that but u have CF that'll support ur decision....keep ur head up ma and we're here if u need to vent!

Dreamgirl, ya did what you had to.

For him to ask you to miss school to work more hours is unreal. You shouldn't have to do that.

With things the way the are now, I'm sure you'll have no problems finding a job in that field.

Good luck to you sweetie!

Thank you Chuck!

Yeah it was unreal for him to ask that...and the other two that quit were full time employees, but they have family, so it wascrazy to think they should give up family time. I'm sure I'll be able to find a job as well, it's just now it's time to start doing the search process.

YOU GO GIRL!!!!!
YOU STOOD UP FOR YOURSELF AND WE ARE PROUD OF YOU FOR THAT. GOOD LUCK MANANA AND IF THAT DOESN'T GO WELL THEN GOOD LUCK WITH JOB HUNTING. WE WILL SUPPORT YOU!!!!!

Thanks Matrix!

Thank yo so much to all of you! The support really means a lot to me. Idon't know....maybe something will work out tomorrow, I won't know till I talk to him. It just got to be too much...even though I'm part time, I worked a full-timers schedule.

hi meggy
long time don't speak
don't worry meggy everything will be fine im sure you'll find another job soon who knows maybe your boss will offer you a raise 2morrow🙂

Meggy Meg! 🙁 Sorry to hear that you had to quit your job. You did the right thing though. You know we're all here for you if you need us. 🙂

Good luck tomorrow and also with the job search. With your experience it shouldn't be very hard at all. 😉

Awww you guys! You're the best! Thanks Coro's, Yahaira, Mike and Krystal!!

Well I went in this morning before I had to go to class, and honestly it was like talking to a brick wall. He did try to offer me a nice raise, but honestly, I do my job as a paramedic because I love it, not so I can make tons of money. So I politely turned him down and said I would not be returning with the company. He's still trying to convince me to come back, but after nearly 4 years, I've taken all I can from him. I hate to leave since we just lost 2 other people, but he needs to realize that there's a way to deal with your employees and if he keeps acting the way he does he's not going to have many left.

As for the job search, there's actually an update. I just happened to be walking by St. Vincent's Hospital in the Village today and I decided to stop in and see if they were hiring. Turns out they're looking for an ER paramedic! I need to drop off my resume and a copy of my certification tomorrow and then they'll set up an interview for next week! I'm psyched. Plus when I took my certification class nearly 4 years ago in Jersey, for the hell of it I took the test in New York, so I ended up being certified in both states, which now works out to a benefit when applying for this job.

Meg,

Sorry to hear this...you have been more than dedicated
to your job... but you have to set your limits!
Surely you will have no problem finding something new
in the same field..keep your head up..& be proud of yrself!
Hilda🙂
