ok everyone know the timestretching vocal effects that was really popular in jungle, drum & bass tracks in 1994. its safe to say its a 90s thing right?
the effect has beat used on techno beats as early as '91, but im not talking beats. strictly vocals.
in case anyone doesnt know what it is, lets say you have a vocal like 'I NEED YOU" that fits in 4 beats (boom-boom-boom-boom). timestretching extends the sample say over 32 beats, like IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII NNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD YYYYYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU,
but to keep it sounding like it would in 4 beats it gets pitched up to sound normal. although the stretch gives it a kinda 'mechanical' sound.
anyhoo, where im going with this is i think an 80s freestyle track CAN BE THE 1ST TO USE THIS VOCAL EFFECT PREDATING TECHNO!!!
listen to the dub version of monet give in to me.
right after the piano intro when the beat starts and the
g-g-give g-g-give g-give GGGGGGGGGGGGGGIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEE
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
its a total jungle style timestrech but perhaps not as mechanical cuz the jungle stuff would be digital, i guess this would be analog.
so a freestyle track from 1987 could have started it all!!!
aint that cool!
we rock!
