Crystal2001: Hello all my Freestyle Lovers! I am here today interviewing my favorite former Tazmania artist...Joe Zangie, and everything you wanted to know about him..Will be asked...😉...So how are you today Joe? Anything you would like to tell your fans before we begin?
JoeZangie: I'm doing great thanks. Whats up everybody!
Crystal2001: Are you ready for the questions I have in store for you?..LOL
JoeZangie: I was born ready!..😉
Crystal2001: Alright babes...How old were you when you became a Freestyle artist? And how did you become one?
JoeZangie: Well, I started listening to freestyle music in HS, and happen to live in an area where a lot of great freestyle artists came from. I was 18 when I released my first song.
Crystal2001: Wow thats awesome! And what song would this be?
JoeZangie: My first song was "In My Dreams", written and produced by Anthony Ponzio, from DTU, a "Philly Freestyle" trio.
Crystal2001: There was a poll at ClubFreestyle.com on your songs, and many people chose "In My Dreams" as their personal favorite. Does that happen to be your favorite too?..lol
JoeZangie: Actually, yes it is, so that is very cool to hear...lol.. Each song I put out has a different meaning to me, but that song started my run with Tazmania.
Crystal2001: You know what..Theres something really unique about your songs..Because each and everyone one of them you put so much passion into it. My personal favorite is "Missing You", and boy..It sounded like you meant every damn word you said. Theres this girl on the boards named Christine who even says that many of your songs are sad and VERY meaningful that touch her...what do you have to say about that?
JoeZangie: Well, yes I must say "Missing You", was a very personal record that I wrote, and put out for myself and for the girl I was with at that time, which I hope comes accross on the recording...but even when I sing a song written for me, I try to put myself in that situation as well....as far as Sad, I never thought about it... It appears I get dumped a lot!!! LOL
Crystal2001: You see? I knew right off the back that this had to be a personal recording because you can tell with the way you sing it. I have it on right now and im like..DAMN...All your songs are so beautiful! Joe....I dont see how you get dumped a lot because you sound like a sweety to me..LOL..But are there songs that you have written yourself? I do believe "Missing You" is one of them..right?
JoeZangie: Wow, thank you. Yes on Taz I wrote, "Missing You", "My Baby" and Co-wrote "You and I". I collaborated with Mykl Asotga from Pure Pleazure on "You and I"
Crystal2001: "My Baby" was a duet right? How was it working with Samantha?
JoeZangie: I love Samantha, she is very talented and beautiful...when I first heard her first record, "Be Sure", I knew I wanted to record something with her... I have'nt seen her for a while, but we are still good friends...I'm glad we had the opportunity to make that song.
Crystal2001: Well then I hope she sees this interview.. Because shes another Tazmania artist that I love!
JoeZangie: I hope so too, Sam, call me!!LOL
Crystal2001: LMAO! Yeah call the man girlll, and be sure to come out with some more Freestyle for us fans!!
JoeZangie- LOL
Crystal2001:So who were and still are your influences?
JoeZangie: My Biggest Influence at first was George Lamond, I think I listened to "Bad of the Heart" a million times in HS...! Also, Stevie B., Coro, and Adam Marano/Collage.
Crystal2001: Thats awesome, and now we all want to know why you left Tazmania records...What happened?
JoeZangie: Well, in a nut shell, I felt that my time there was well spent...But, after 5 years I had to see what else was out there for me..So I opted not to re-sign. I still have great memories and ties with the label guys and artists, but it was time to move on.
Crystal2001: Yeah I hear you..So did you find what you were looking for? Was it something that had to do with Freestyle..or something else you had in mind?
JoeZangie: Initially I planned on recording new material with new producers, and take it from there.. But, with-in a month or two I was offered to go on tour with Rockell to be her touring partner for, "Can't We Try"..And I ended up on that tour for over a year and a half..
Crystal2001: And how was it being on tour with Rockell? Must have been good then!..LOL
JoeZangie: It was incredible. Rockell had a lot of momentum at the time with, "I Fell In Love" and "In A Dream" being hot at the time..
Crystal2001: Those songs are still being played all over KTU and Z100, a long with other hits by her.
JoeZangie: YES, I know this, because now, I am Rockell's Manager..I started a company over the summer, and she was one of the first artists I signed. I have been busy with her, with the recent release of "Tears" her new single LOL
Crystal2001: Well damn! This news came out of nowhere..LOL! This is awesome news...So now we know exactly what you have been doing!
JoeZangie: Yes, more or less..LOL
Crystal2001: No wait..Is there more?...Cause you know, if there is..we'd like to know.
JoeZangie: Theres always more in this BIZ...
Crystal2001: Well Joe, does this BIZ involve YOU working on something NEW for us? And did her single already come out?
JoeZangie: Yes, it hit the stores on Nov. 12, and charted first week #16 on Billboard Maxi Sales chart! And Possibly working for something new for you guys, but, we'll have to wait and see about that....!
Crystal2001: Wow thats really great to hear because you can tell she worked hard on that song..Big ass props to you and her...
JoeZangie: She really did, and Tony Moran, a Freestyle legend wrote and produced the original version...so Im proud to be apart of this project, and thanks to the Freestyle fans, who continue to support this music.
Crystal2001: But now Joe, we happen to be very impatient..Or at least..Im impatient..LOL! And I honestly cannot wait for what you'd have for us in the near future. You will be having something for us in the near future right?
JoeZangie: Thats a possibility...I was injured in a car accident, which has out my jaw on the disabled list for now... But, hopefully I'll get back to the studio someday soon, I have a great DR.
Crystal2001: Im sorry to hear that sweety, this accident must have been hard on you..But look at you now, still doing your thing!
JoeZangie: Well, Music is my life, I had to find a way to stay in my field...and always planned on a retirement in artist management..It just came a little sooner...LOL
Crystal2001: Awwwwwwww..lolol..But like I said before, we cant wait till you come back. A fan of yours named Randi said "us fans have been waiting a long time".. And she speaks the truth..;-)
JoeZangie: I am still writing, and hope to record eventually....thank you to everyone for the support...It looks like I have to make at least one more, just for all of you guys!
Crystal2001: When you decide to come back..which I know you are..LOL....Are you going to have a project already in mind? Any remakes?
JoeZangie: Well, I have had meetings... I don't dislike remakes, but, I wouldn't want to release a cover as my "NEW" single.... I have in the past recorded other styles such as R&B and POP demos, but it always comes back to dance music for me. Its in my blood.. and there will always be a freestyle feel to my songs.. I think it just got to be too much..
Crystal2001: Your right, and either way Im sure the fans would love it..But I have been seeing talk about the fans disliking remakes..lol... And what do you think about the artists that started with Freestyle, going to other genres of music?
JoeZangie: I did a remake, in 96, "True Faith"..it was the labels idea, but still at that time, there wasn't as many...
Crystal2001: Yes I know what you mean. I dont care what anyone says...If it sounds good...Then bring it.
JoeZangie: I think its natural for every artist to evolve, just like any other person...And sometimes, as an artist you want to try new things... I think its good for other artists to experiment..
Crystal2001: Thats exactly what Marc Anthony, George Lamond, TKA, and other artists were going for..But do u think they'd ever think about going back to Freestyle? You know..Theres been a lot of talk and argument about Freestyle coming back..Freestyle being dead..Freestyle NOT coming back..I mean, what do u think about it? Do you feel that Freestyle will make a come back?
JoeZangie: Well, being on tour with Rockell, I definetly see a re-surge of dance music...but more trance.. and a lot of european acts. I hope freestyle will comeback. I definetly think what we are doing with Rockell can contribute to that.. I think the new Madonna has a freestyle feel to it...but people outside the freestyle world, call it "Dance" music..
Crystal2001: With artists like Nick Colon, Rockell, Nu Image, Ashley, Ayna, Fred Nice, Aby, Nyasia..and many more that are coming out with new Freestyle...I think it will.
JoeZangie: I agree, and wish those artists well..
Crystal2001: There are many talented new artists out there, one being Nick Colon...These are the people we need for Freestyle to make a come back. And Joe..you gotta be one of those artists..LOL!
JoeZangie: Unfortunately I havent heard his music yet, but yes, all good freestyle is the way to bring it back...There needs to be room for new, young artists to come up, and get the support and love that the "Legends" get... I think that holds it back some...
Crystal2001: Yes...your right...I think as a Freestyle fan, you need to be very open minded and appreciate what we get from the new artists out there.
JoeZangie: Exactly.. sometimes new freestyle gets over looked, and the Dj reaches for a "Classic" record..we all love the "Classic's" but we need to grow as well...
Crystal2001:Your right, and thats why I admire the Freestyle File for having a show every Saturday to play classics, rare..AND the new Freestyle. Youve actually been into the chat before because I told you about it. We need DJs like them right?!
JoeZangie: Exactly right.
Crystal2001: So Joe what do you think about the YOUNGER generation being into Freestyle? (This better be good)..LOLOL!
JoeZangie: Well, younger meaning what? Teenagers? LOL
Crystal2001: Younger..meaning....Teens, and even kids that are in the very young years!..lol
JoeZangie: I think its great that there are still people of all ages who will go seek out a song because they love it. Not because it's what the radio says to love, but because it touches them or means something to them or just puts them in the party mood..
Crystal2001: Yes your right...Im a young teen and I go beyond the classics. I have a 10 year old brother whos loved Freestyle since he was 7...You gotta share the love baby.
JoeZangie: LOL, that's awesome!
Sparkle1NY: A friend of mine from the boards named Francis said this "And Crystal, please tell him that I didn't forget him. But did he forget his n°1 French fan?! LOL"..what do u have to say about that? LMAO
JoeZangie: Francis contacted me through e-mail, its incredible that my songs reached europe!...starting out in this biz, you just hope for the best, I feel very blessed, and thankful to all my fans.
Crystal2001: AWWWWWWW! You see that francis? Got nothing but love!!!..;-)..Theres also a fan who we call the Freestyle Master (Anthony A1971)..That has ALL of your songs on vinyl....I wish I was a collector like him!
JoeZangie: Damn me too...I wish I had all the Compilations!..LOL
Crystal2001: LOL! Well..I believe I asked you many questions tonight...was this easy for you?
JoeZangie: 100% Painless! LOL.. Special shout out's to all the people in the freestyle community...I've been in this biz for so many yrs, I am truely grateful for the support the community has shown me...let's keep it going.... Thank you Crystal for letting me tell my story.. And I hope to see everyone, I'll be on tour with Rockell at most of her shows..BTW, a big hello to DEL..😉
Crystal2001: It was an honor to interview you Joe Zangie and to finally know the true story of what's been up. I hope to bump into you someday and you better keep in touch! Im sure everyone around the world would love to know when and where youll be on tour.. Whether its you alone, or with Rockell...So you have to let us fans know.
JoeZangie: I hope the same, Happy Holidays to you and everyone at Clubfreestyle.com and Freestyle Paradise. Check out the message board at Rockell.com for upcoming dates!
Crystal2001: Well there you have it guys...The story told by the one and only JOE ZANGIE. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have!
