I'm surprised nobody has weighed in on India's performance at Krash. What did you all think?

I really wanted to go.

One- Because she rarely does club shows anymore.

Two- Because she was playing Krash.

Three- I really wanted to hear "I Can't Get No Sleep", "Love & Happiness", "When You Touch Me", "Backfired", "Runaway", "Dancing On The Fire", "Right From The Start", and "Lover Who Rocks You" peformed live.

Damn, I think not going was the stupidest shit I've ever done.

Well i wus there, i work 4 krash as a bouncer, it wus pack, and the crowd went crazy 4 her , she did very well, out of the 4yrs working there i have never heard the crowd sing every song in eng and span, with an artist the way they did with India. she said afew words about "Celia Cruz" and the crowd love it, she wus suppose to sing 6 songs and she did 8. she wus like wow u guys make me feel so welcome i have to do 2 more, after ever song she had to wait till the crowd the cheering and trust me they did 4 alone time, each song wus the same way, when she did "dancing on fire. wow they went wild, i had to stand in the crowd right in front of the stage cuz they were trying to grab her..even when we rush her to her limo the fans were all over her car..she stop and sign a few pics gave a few hugs, she diff rock krash,i saw nelson(ffdw)cruz wus there kenny gwedo and dee, coro and a few others. it wus a great turn out !!!!!! legit

I thought she was great, too. She looked high as a kite to me, but I could be wrong. Anyway, the show was really good. At first it didn't look like she was going to do any of her freestyle songs and she said that she has evolved past freestyle (not meant to be a dis, I didn't think). But after she was done, and wanted to sing some more she did acapella versions of "Lover Who Rocks You" and "Dancing On the Fire." She also sang "I Can't Get No Sleep," and "Love and Happiness" but that was all from her house stuff.

(Inspired by Ivan's review) Has anyone yet deciphered her lyrics to "Mirage"?

By the way, thanks for the reviews.. 😀

Someone once told me that they lyrics to Mirage are Dancing on the Fire played backwards. Never tested the theory, though.

IF you listen to "Love and Happiness" you will find that it has similiar chants to "Dancing on the fire".These chants are from the Santeria religion.India like Celia Cruz practice this religion but you won't hear much about this since this could end a career for any artist in the Latin industry. There's more to this but I don't want to confuse anyone. But thats what you hear on "mirage".

Yes, Diane and I went to the show. I got some of it on video. she was really good and let me tell you, the place was PACKED! You couldnt even move a muscle. the crowd made the freestyle crowds look like kiddie shows! she had EVERYONE moving at the show.

She performed at an annual cultural arts festival in Baltimore which was only about 45 minutes away for me. It was set up for performances on 3 stages. We were late to her act coz we couldn't find the stage she was performing on at the last minute lol, but I did get to see her a little bit and it was great cuz she's really what I went for.

I also wanted to see her do "Backfired" live, cuz that is her best joint to date in my opinion. I never heard her sing like that part at the end when she does that gospel-style break, and all you's that heard that track know just the part i'm talkin about too! lol Maybe she did it and I just missed it. 🙁

But she was great and I can't wait to see her again. Hopefully soon.

Here is the excerpt (thanks Mark).. "vocalist La India (Sunday, Festival Stage, 8:45 p.m. ) and her sensitive, charismatic, and chance-taking voice, along with her willingness to experiment without abandoning tradition, put her in the same sort of class as the recently departed Celia Cruz."

What does he mean by chance-taking voice? By the way, she looks amazing in the pic featured in the article 🙂

Hey Sophia,
They were giving her some good reviews. I'm glad India decided to come down and hopefully she'll be back again soon.
The writer of that review was paying her a compliment on that "chance-taking voice" compliment. He was right on the money too. You know how a lot of artists restrict themselves when they perform live? Like they don't sing the songs exactly the same because they maybe apprehensive about hitting certain notes. In the studio, they can do it over and over until they get it right. When they're live, they only get one chance to make it right. What he was saying is India takes the chance and hits it, and more importantly, she makes it! I think she got that from working under Tito & Celia. I got an interview she did and she was taking about how hard Tito pushed her when it was time to do live performances. She said he made her do things she didn't know she could.

am a very big fan of "La India" and i look for someone who recorded her live at krash 2003 audio or video. I propose to trade it in change of "India" live in southport 2002 (a part of video and all the show in audio with an excellent sound) where she sang live :
>> Costumbre
>> love and happiness
>> i can't get no sleep
>> To be in love
>> backfired

do not hesitate to mail me back and propose me a trade

I dont think anyone video taped her. I was the only one there and i was told to shut it off. All I saw were digital cameras and disposibles there.
