you know you talk alot of this bull on here. what u need to do is ask yourself , how much money, stress , sacraficing it takes to make a song not just becuase you feel u have to for the fans but for the love for the music... and if you were about what u say, then you would point out the artist that you say suck.. say their names so they know how you feel about them.. dont be a purified p***y and not mention names,.. say who they are.. i just you dont mention any of my good freinds on that list... cause they are the reason that we are still jamming to the GENRE ...

I been hearing hip hop music and quite frankly I'm tired of the hardcore lame got guns, gunshots, bashing of women, degoratory statements towards women, gay bashing, who got bigger balls, or wait until you see my balls...seriously I need a breath of fresh air music.

The way I see it is...I been a freestyle fans since i was a teenager of the age of 13. :) I miss my music being played all over the streets and radio. Sure it's not as blown out like yesterday...but perhaps that might change as the months pass by. :)

Many songs that these new artists are creating today I love them...I can't help it's my preference of music and I have an aquired taste for music that my ears love. :)

I don't care who, what, when, where, how...just give me music that I love to hear.

You took some serum and a little true emotion came out. The truth sucks sometimes, but a lie is the worst dirt you can do to an artist. If I made a song and all I kept hearing was how good it is from just about everyone, I know something wouldn't be right. If I think a song posted on this board blows, I won't address the artist with any feedback. Why? Because I'm still new to this board and no one really knows my sense of taste yet. If I were to tell someone that their music could use some improvement, initially, human nature would dictate that the artist in question would most likely think to him/herself, "..F-U Cratebug! Who the hell are you anyway?!?!"

Then again, it is how you approach a person with your opinion of their work.

If you truly want to help this genre prosper, you'll offer up and coming artists your criticism in a respectful manner IMO.

I need some more time on this board for people to get to know me...once that time comes, then I can let them have it right between the eyes.....with respect of course:D :biggrin

By the way, if you're work kicks ass, I'll mos def let you know right off the bat....don't need to wait for that.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.............

It's a matter of taste!!!!

If you don't like it, then you don't like it. That doesn't mean it's garbage.

Here's a story for you.

I played freestyle for my friend Corrine's younger brother, Gary, and his friends. They are all college juniors, and we were leaving Cor's house after a barbque. They wanted to have some drinks, so I offered to drive them to and from the campus. I mentioned I listened to freestyle, and they thought I meant rap.

The same words that some of you all here are using to describe the new school acts, are the same words they were using to describe old school acts.

I played for them names that everyone here says they love. TKA, Cover Girls, Cynthia, George LaMond, Stevie B., C-Bank, Lisa Lisa. They heard it all on one of my mix cds, and they called it garbage.

What does it prove? That's it's a matter of taste. The new school that some of you hate, we love. And the old school we call "classics" and legends, other people call garbage.

No no no...IT has nothing to do with taste. You are comparing apples to oranges. You did not mention if your friends listen to freestyle. So that holds no water. That would be asking a country listener and forcing him\her to listen to RAP than asking if they liked it. We are talking about us freestyle listeners critiquing the quality of vocals and music in comparison to the freestyle hits of the 80's and 90's. We are not talking about the 8th track on one of the old schoold cd's that we didn't like. We are talking about some of the singles that are coming out today that are not of the greatest quality. Our hope is with constructive critism, someone will rise to the occasion.

THis is coming from just a listener only, I have no connections personally to anyone here or to any freestyle artist. Just because some of us here are not producers, singers, of DJ's does not disqualify us for having a ear for the music. Nothing more nothing less

God bless

Simon

Truth of the matter is there are a LOT of people who will not EVER be satisfied with any new Freestyle music. That's one of the things that all of us "new school artists" understand. I know that a lot of you are just wishing there was a radio station that still played TKA and Johnny O 24/7. Hell, some of you barely support new songs by "old school artists".

I think of it this way. My mom can't even HEAR Mariah Carey or Ciara. She gets up and turns it off. She'd rather be hearing Ike and Tina Turner or Billy Ocean. She hit a point in her life where she just doesn't think any new stuff has talent. Everyone hits that point in their life sometime.

There are a lot of new Freestyle artists that I like and a lot that I don't like. I don't like a few of the new artists who receive nothing but praise from the members of this site. I feel no need to call anyone out though because what I like, some people hate. It IS a matter of taste.

We (the "new school Freestyle artists") are trying to find our voice in a world where Freestyle music has no mainstream validity and the people who DO support the music aren't hearing us. To be honest, the members of this site are my LEAST concern. I'm interested in catching the ear of the music fan who doesn't know what Freestyle is. I'm barely at the start of my game and there's a lot to learn and a long way to go. I look forward to the journey.

Anyway... opinions are great. Constructive criticism is great. Straight hating is garbage. Know the difference.

Creativity is missing in action....has been for years, hence all the samples and remakes of songs past. Can you listen to any of these "new" songs whether it's Freestyle, Hip Hop, or whatever and not have it remind you of something that someone already made. It's not an easy thing to stumble upon or create a new sound or individual idea in today's age.

To no one in particular:

Artist. Think about that word and what it means. IMO, too many people think this title applies to them. It's a term that sadly, is loosely attached to everyone that just recorded something (New Recording Artist). If you consider yourself an artist, ask yourself this, "Could what I just created, sang, recorded, remixed, etc., be considered a work of art? Do I honestly think it's quality work?" If anyone wants to be real here. Be real with yourself....to thine own self be true boys & girls.

Good music is good music. For example, the fact that I personally don't care too much for Reggaeton doesn't mean that I can't tell what's good and what really blows (sucks). Some Regaetton was well produced, while some wasn't. Same thing goes for Freestyle. And before all the Reggaeton fans come out to defend it, let me just say that I am NOT saying that I hate Reggaeton or that it sucks as a genre, I'm just saying that the music doesn't do anything for me.....and that some of it is well done and some of it is not, as with any other genre.

It's never the genre that sucks, it's the people that associate themselves with the genre, that may not be offering the listener quality work or something that actually sounds new and fresh.

Some of the "opinions" on here are indeed a matter of taste, I agree with you. Some are so set on the old school that they'll trash a new school artist's song just because it doesn't have that old sound. People need to put that preference aside and tell their real opinion of the new productions on their quality of sound, melody... production PERIOD. If it's not the old school 1980's dated production sound your used to, so what?!? Don't base it on that.
