"I Know This Much is True" for my son
Allow me to paint you a picture
Freelance, a you and me dance
On canvas painted hills
That I tend to hide behind.
I want to splatter of guidance rain
That a father can only give.
I have lived a life full of riffles
More wisdom than very book in the bible
I'm libel to flee this cycle
But I saty because my sanity can wait until tomorrow.
For awhile I thought it was impossible
Something I could just make up
Just wake up surviving fast
With my wits attached.
I was feeling trapped and going mad
To keep myself from going crazy.
Then from out the hazy moon sky came you,
A lovely truth providing my cave-like life with light.
I know this much is true, I know this much is right.
Allow me in summer, rain, drizzle of dry
I raise high my just battle cry
And I lie awake at night and thank the Lord
And all his great mercy,
For allowing me to survive and get by
All that hurt me,
All that cursed me on just about every level.
Achingly alive, I resound the a song with the melody
Of an angel's cello and I hear the song of you.
A song that carries me liek a note,
Like water; careful and easy.
Nothing in my life happened
Until it happened, believe me.
Finding rainbows to chase
Was always just a waste of time
Until the edges of my nights were lit from your shine,
My blue sky hanging high.
I know this is true, I know this is right.
Allow me to share these years
That will form the walls and cages you will fear,
The freedom and power you will live,
Let me give you more than I have
And more than my own father did.
You have made me unselfish in my ways
Even in my painful days
I feel a sense of accomplishment,
a sense of truth that is dominant in a world of lies.
Now I fight not only for what food's on my plate
But to make sure you're stomach's full
and begin this life with a clean slate.
I feel all my pain desipate in the dark blue night,
I know this much is true
Because you're the one thing I did right.
Allow me to paint you a picture
