Next month, a bloodmobile is gonna come to work, and people who want to donate their blood are welcome. I had donated blood in the past, and would do it again.

There were fliers handed out about the event, and it says to go to the website to see if you are "eligible" to donate blood.

Of course, it states that people with hiv, aids, and are active intravenous drug users are not welcome.

and then, it says this........

The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) also requires that blood centers defer male donors who respond affirmatively to the question "have you had sex with another man, even once, since 1977."

I guess gay men need not apply.

thats messed up chuck.. i mean those who do i would hope use protection right.. well sorry about that chuck...

I think that falls under discrimination doesn't it? I mean really as long as you check out well and have been a donor prior to that it shouldn't be a problem right? wow that really sucks, sorry chuckie poo.

I can't give blood due to my Anemia, I wish I could though.

I mean c'mon, don't they screen the blood anyway?????? I got the same problem as Nyasia, I can't give blood cause of my anemia. I don't even get the point of that question. Anyone who ever has had unprotected sex is just as much a risk, sometimes more...no wonder there's a blood shortage. Sometime's government regulation's are soooooo stupid.

Naya you right about that. It is discrimmination and if taken to the proper people they would be in a whole hell of alot trouble. I can't believe they even went there. They are supposed to check all the blood. I'm freakin apalled.

That is def discrimation. I have never heard of such a thing, where I used to work at,(a health care facility for the glbt community) we use to donate all the time. Straight or gay.

just because a man is gay, everybody thinks they have,or will get aids. Its just the old timers taboo.Hang in there pappa bear, when they all die off, things will change. We need some young blood in politics. It will happen.Im sorry this happened.

this does not make sense on a number of levels - first of all, ALL blood has to be screened BY LAW before it is distributed to hospitals. It has to be tested for HIV, and everything else. In fact, many people who have never had same sex relations have blood disorders, including various strains of hepatitis and other blood transmittable diseases. Any man, woman or child can have this. So this does not make any sense. I would print out those web pages and take them with that flyer to a laywer and see if you have a discrimination case.
