Gina,

You are in luck, hailing from Toronto! There are alot of freestyle heads out that way.

First thing to do is practice singing in the shower!
Seriously - it works!

If your voice stinks don't bother reading the rest of this.
I'm serious.

Next make a tape of yourself singing. Best way to do that is get the instrumental (music only version) of a song you feel comfortable singing, one that is in your vocal range. If not got to HMV look through the karoke cds and pick out a good pop song, to sng along to.

While you are at the store, look on the back of the Freestyle cd's. Copy the address and phone number down, and mail them a copy of your tape. Ti-Amo Records might be a good place to start.

If you do end up recording a song and getting signed to a label, the best thing about Canada, is the radio. Canadian law requires radio to play 30% Canadian content meaning 30% of all the music they play on every station has to be connected to Canada somehow, either by songwriter, producer, or artist. So the radio stations are always looking for homegrown talent.
