so what's euro freestyle? someone give me examples of songs which would be classified like that. it better not be the canadian variey like planet because that's NOT hi-energy and some say freestyle with the hi-nrg sound (hence euro-freestyle) sounds dumb

Hehe. Many americans call our Canadian freestyle or the ones from Germany and Brazil euro freestyle. Not much to do with eurodance but mainly the excessive use of planet rock and very apparent trance/rapid synth cues and breaks/breakbeat which are an integral part of our sound; in addition to electro, 2step, breaks and the traditional US style old school hearthrob. Flying Steps, Freestyle project, the new Ferry Corsten, the new MC Mario, Audrey, Primadonna (DRC Mix) etc. would fall into this so called name.

IM CONFUSED aswell,!!!!!!!!! Y is Joee's Better than u, considered euro freestyle, and not on CF's top 40 for 2003 ! but rockell's 2002/2003 mix, of Tears, is not considered euro freestyle, and lands no. 7 on the top 40 !and surely it sounds euro - freestyle 2 me! Joee's track wasnt even mentioned in the top 40!

No disrespect 2 Ashley, but from a Canadian point of view, what did u CF members see in that track! Its okk but not that great , .. plz i apolologize , if i offended everyone, who voted 4 that track!

Is euro freestyle, really considered freestyle, by bay area americans?

Let's close this one up:

There is no such category as "euro-freestyle". Some people, mostly from america, might call it that when they hear tracks with the trance cues, breaks, breakbeat with the groups mentionned above.

The Canadian freestyle mega hit by Joee "better than you", although released recently, would qualify as "old school freestyle" as it uses classic sounds rather than trance cues or breaks.

Hi Peter,

I should see my friend next week. So, he will record the CD for you. Okay!
I keep you posted anyway.

What is Euro Freestyle?

1. use of Planet Rock Beat or Funky Melody genre.
2. use of Trancey and Euro Dance/Hi-Nrg keys mainly, ans sometimes in the rhytm beat.

This is my definition of Euro Freestyle.

Freestyle Project, Flying Steps, etc. have nothing to do with Euro Freestyle. The genre is called Electro Freestyle. Music and style mainly for B-boys and B-girls (Breakdancers).

My 2 cents. 😉

Also...don't make any confusion with the word "Euro Freestyle".

Many people think that because it comes from Europe it means automatically that it's "Euro Freestyle". Wrong!

"Euro Freestyle" is a style, not a country or a race thing. 😉

ellas1945,

My main advise, don't believe everything you see on TOP Charts whatever the site. :idea
Sometimes, I saw non freestyle tracks referenced...

Each freestyle buffs seems to possess his own definition of what Euro Freestyle, West Coast Freestyle, Old School, New School, etc,... is? :sick

So...

The only thing I can say that Joee, Ashley and Rockell last tracks are definitively no "Euro Freestyle". 😉 People who said that those songs are "Euro Freestyle", they say bullshitts...as simple as that!

At the end of the day, there is no such category as "euro freestyle". Up here in Canada, planet rock, electro, 2 step, breaks, breakbeat in addition to he traditional old school hearthrob are an integral part of freestyle. The few referring to the appelation "euro freestyle" are actually implying to do so after hearing "electro" tracks such as flying steps, etc. referenced above.

Sorry but I'm not agree on this one.
And Freestyle music contains sub-categories as the few styles I mentioned above. It's too easy to say that everything is Freestyle. This is why people are confused.

2 Step, Breakbeat & breaks are close genres from Freestyle music, but are not really part of Freestyle. 3 different styles, definitely.

In some recent and new stuff some tracks were containing a Breakbeat genre or Breaks but with Freestyle elements (keys or way to sing, for instance). This is why you could consider them as Freestyle stuff.
I'm talking for instance about L.I.V, Diana Rayne, etc.

2 Steps has nothing to do with Freestyle music.

By the way, tell me what you think when freestylers talk about "New School". Now, every new stuff (I mean most of them) is categorized as New School.
This is a big mistake, because the only New School genre that I know is a creation of Carlos Berrios's producer (lisette melendez).

Peace out.

About "Euro Freestyle" is an another thing. Some people used this term to categorize the stuff from Europe which contain Planet Rock, Electro Freestyle, Freestyle productions that contain Euro Dance/Trance elements with Breaks or Breakbeat, etc. (as I said above!). You know these kind of productions were you mix different kind of genres with Freestyle elements.
😉

wow, lots of ideas here. thanx bassbump & francis.. ya i thought euro freestyle was just the remixes.

but to me, our euro-charged freestyle is what i consider the "normal" freestyle for nowadays.. the american stuff nowadays has a habit of sounding like 80s music which people should be tired of hearing in the 21st century (but apparently aren't).. to me the canadians & europeans are the innovators while many think we're ruining freestyle by incorporating it with euro & trance.

and by the way, rockell - in a dream sounds SO euro but i hear nobody in the US complaining..

cool Tran🙂

Francis: You are entitled to your opinion. Up here, planet rock, breaks, breakbeat, electro, 2 step in addition to the old school hearthrob are an integral part of the freestyle sound. I will stand by my statement on that and the fact there is no such thing as a category called "euro freestyle", etc.

Interesting eternal debate heheh, we'll agree to disagree on this one in two parts of the world 🙂

I'm with Francis on this one; a sub-genre called "Euro-Freestyle" has evolved and its defining characteristic is the trance/euro keys. Elissa's "Back To Me" is a perfect example of "Euro-freestyle".

Bassbump,

I definitively think that your definition of Freestyle is wrong. By the way, it's YOUR definition. I know some canadians and i've never heard before that Breakbeat and 2 Steps was part of Freestyle music. It's a non sense.
You can say everything you want but for instance one the version of "Somnanbulist" by BT is NOT a Freestyle mix but considered as a Breakbeat mix.

Once again, the term "Euro Freestyle" permitts to classify what type of Freestyle is it...when you know what it is!!! LOL. :shush

Take care.
