what i always wished would never happened ..... No need now to argue over whos freestyle is better, why are they playing stevie b again, why doesn't tony play more U.S freestyle ect ect. The freestyle frenzy has been cancelled officially in toronto after nine years...... Freestyle for toronto R.I.P....A legacy is over

The Frenzy was a groundbreaking show in Toronto radio because it was fresh and different. It filled a void by daring to be original, playing a genre of music that had, to that point, been neglected. When The Frenzy first started in the mid-90s, it was a huge step forward for freestyle in Canada. If it wasn't for the Frenzy, artists like Elissa, Joee, Chris & Alexia Phillips, etc would never have gotten the exposure they needed to break out. Simply put, the Canadian freestyle scene would not exist were it not for this groundbreaking show!

But then something happened. It's like those episodes of "Behind The Music" where the artist becomes too popular for their own good, and begins to go on a downward spiral. The Canadian freestyle scene, and the Frenzy specifically, fell into a familiar formula which caused the show and the music to stagnate and become repetitive and boring. Eventually, the show became nothing more than a 60 minute commercial for whatever the latest Tony Monaco CD was that was being pushed.

The Freestyle Frenzy became succesful because it dared to be different. It died becuse it refused to change.

R.I.P.

It's interesting what housebanger said and yet so true and I was thinking the same thing. For the first time in a long time people are actually getting along and have bonded together for the same causeand that is attempting to show the unity that exists amongst freestyle fans. I always told people that dissed this artist or that artist or complained about too much airplay of one act and not of another and now the worst case scenerio has occured. I always told people that we were priviledged in toronto to hear frestyle and the amount of dance music that was featured because in so many other markets top 40 is ruled by hip hop and pop-rock. Now Freestyle music has been dumped in the Big Smoke. It was a sad sunday in the super city with no beats pumping. Perhaps this unity will better serve us in the future wherever it may take us. Let's see if all of us can make a difference, please email me at tonys_freestyle_frenzy@yahoo.com
Thanks and peace out.

i guess we have been taking the frenzy for granted for all these years, i remember tony's big hoax back in 2001 when he april fooled us into thinking the frenzy would be cancelled (because too many girls listned to it LOL). didnt think the day would come when the frenzy really got cancelled, but after a couple days knowing this i've learned to accept the hard fact. it's sad but its true i guess, all good things must come to an end.
