IIGHT...have u ever answered this question or something close to it: "What type/genre of music u listen to?" and u respond with tha following "Freetyle." And then them ppl who asked u that question think u are referring to tha Free Style/rap genre of music? Well, this has happened to me plenty of timez and i dunno if itz because around where i live freestyle is not that popular or because my friends are sometimes brain dead..((hehe)) Or for any reason it just getz on my nerves. Tha point of this is: How can we as "freestyle lovers" 😉 show and make tha specific and obvious difference(s) between Freestyle and Free Style? OR jus if u have something in response to my example (like if it happened to u) and u'd like to share it..go ahead! 🙂
 
well up here freestyle is popular so if u say it they usually get wut i mean...but some people dont and if thats the case i just say no not hip hop but the older dance kind...simple as that 😛
 
Basically, I sum it all into one catergory first. I respond with Dance music, then I break it down for them. "You know, House, Freestyle, Club shit....." Then they understand what I'm talking about. If they're still clueless, all I have to say is "The Covergirls" and then they're like, "Oh yeah, I remember them." Yeah, okay.
 
I usually have to mention Dreamboy/Dreamgirl by Cynthia & Johnny O. because it got so much radio play even years after the single was released and then people get it. 🙁 Don't get me wrong, the song's not bad, but I would prefer people to recognize another song that "represented" Freestyle. Imagine if someone had never heard rap music before and you had to mention Ice Ice Baby to jog their memory!

I usually sum it up by saying, Freestyle AKA: "CLUB HOUSE DANCE MUSIC", which is the catch phrase that WTCC 90.7FM in Springfield, MA uses 😉
 
I just use the word "Freestyle", nothing less nothing more.

"Club House Dance Music" means nothing to me.😉
Imagine that you ask this genre to a retail store, the guy will say: "Sorry sir but what kind of music is it? Is it Club, is it House or is it Dance????; Sorry, I never heard about this style."

Freestyle is Freestyle!!! LOL🙂
 
For True.......when I speak of freestyle people have no clue!! I have to start naming, "Johnny O, Stevie B, remember 'Silent Morning,' and there like oh yeah...!!"........
 
i call it freestyle/dance or freestyle/heartthrob. or just plain"rollerrink music".people in chicago usally know what it is. it pisses me off, I'll try t set up a freestyle chat in Yahoo an everyone comes in there rapping!
 
when I was a kid (in the 80's) we called it dance music, or club.then they started calling it hearthob or latin hip-hop or freestyle, new school or old school.also in L.A. they called it disco for awhile.but the point is we all know what freestyle is,screw these people who think that it's rap,the're all a bunch of juvineles that think talking about "hoes and 40's" is cool.
 
thatz true what u are saying about rap. But I have nothing against rap. Rap used to be nothing but tha truth of what these rappers used to express. Most of tha things rappers rap about today are all fo commercial purposes. At least that is tha way i see it. But anywayz let me not change tha subject. Besides most might agree...and i dun wanna get into an arguement. 🙁 ....
 
yeha when did it begin being called "Freestyle"? And Why?? F-R-E-E-S-T-Y-L-E? The earliest I remmeber is in 1993 when thoe Freestyle's Greatest beats came out.. But before that I always knew it as CLub Music.
 
i just call it dance, since almost everyone i've talked to said "oh freestyle? so can you freestyle?" so i've given up hope in just saying freestyle.
besides i've let other people listen to freestyle before and they just said "oh, this is gino beats.." which sounds a lot dumber since i don't consider freestyle as gino beats.
