Does anybody else find this Missy Query person useless ? She writes the 'Freestyle File" column in the biggest dance magazine DMA. All she does is complain about freestyle, how its dying, and how its not what it use to be. I gotta believe she has no knowledge of freestyle, and has no clue what to write about. For over a year now, every column contains her bitching about freestyle dying. Go read her latest column that came out this week. I have no idea what she's even talking about. If i didn't know anything about freestyle, and i read her column, i would think freestyle has been dead for 10 years.

Here freestyle STILL has a column in the biggest dance magazine around. And we got this moron writing about garbage. If nothing else, she's letting the average fan know about freestyle's current problems. Stop bitching and be more positive ! Give me the column, I'd keep it upbeat, promising and infomative. Everything that this dunce DOESN'T do !

For someone with the name "FreestyleTruth" it sure sounds like you are living in denial!

While Missy Q's column in DMA is useless (let's face it, The Freestyle File column in DMA magazine has totally sucked ever since Bernie Rosenberg stopped writing it) and I will agree she doesn't know the first thing about our music, she is 100% correct about the lack of good, quality material out there today.

I haven't bothered to purchase a copy of DMA in years because I have no interest in Missy's frivolous dribble of useless out-dated information. Yes, I agree with you - the chick really has no clue when it comes to Freestyle. BUT if she is bitching and moaning about how most new Freestyle releases SUCK she shouldn't be ridiculed for speaking her mind, because she is just being honest and telling you the truth.

If you think you could breathe new life into the column, I strongly encourage you to go for it. Just be honest, and don't kiss everyone's ass because you're hungry for new Freestyle. You know what I mean - tell the truth, if you think the latest release from a legend of Freestyle sucks - then say it. Don't settle for less and tell them that their new material is some of the best work they have ever done (we have an overabundance of that here on CF) when you know damn well a cat in heat screaming over a loop of "Planet Rock" would sound better.

And that, my friends is one to grow on...

Another public service announcement from your good old Uncle Rhoq!

😉

Rhoq, as far as u saying there is a "LACK" of good NEW freestyle music available today....u r very wrong, alot of new artists have ALOT of new good music, whether it's to your taste...is a different story, but don't deny and misinform the freestyle community because of your tatse and preferences.

Freestylesal,

Bernie has been fired by Gary Hayslett..without a note...as simple as that!

Freestyletruth,

I'm invinting you to contact DMA Magazine to write some articles, it kind be quite interesting.

Rhoq,

100% agree with you.😉

If you can show me something that is both new AND good - when I say good, I mean that it is QUALITY Freestyle then I will aknowledge it as such...Until then, I am entitled to my opinion and free to speak what it is on my mind!

Thanks Francis!

I myself, at one time considered contacting DMA in an attempt to oust Missy Query as the columnist of The Freestyle File and replace her, but then I changed my mind (let's face it, there really isn't all that much to write about and I'll be damned if I devote an entire page to writing about the latest Euro-Crapstyle compilations from ZYX each month)

😉

Anyways - back to the topic at hand...

If you care to notice, Missy tends to neglect the artists and labels while at the same time writing overwhelmingly positive thoughts, comments and reviews of CDs released by the record label she works for (Which is the same label responsible for the DMA compilations). At times, she will sacrifice reviewing or even mentioning a new release just to promote products released by her employer.

The artists that do manage to receive an honorable mention are usually artists who have licensed songs to her label and have been featured on DMA Freestyle compilations.

If she truly cared about Freestyle music she would do all that she could to give our artists, labels and producers as much promotion and exposure in the amount of space DMA provides her with each issue. Where are the website addresses, e-mail addresses and other contact information for the artists/labels? They seem to be null and void as far as Missy is concerned.

Hello Everybody

I do agree that she is not doing her job well. As far as my label she has not even reply to any of my emails at all, even if my label are releasing spanish freestyle and some in english is still freestyle no matter what languge it is,,

She has not even give love to us by supporting us and I am sure to other labels too. She has trully ignore E.L.I.RECORDS and Artist's emails and information provided to her of our new releases.

Now as per the music we have to understand that not everybody likes the same format, for example if you like a certain sound on freestyle and you hear something new created on or different sound on freestyle. that don't mean that is wack of terrible production each and everybody has preference and opinions, she should not put down any lables or compilations her job is to promote it and supported or is it that colunm is for her only opinions and not for other. She should let the fans or people buy and let them make their on decision or opinion about the music.

One time I heard a song on FREESTYLE thatI didn't like at all but that don't mean is wack its just not the type of sound i like. that but other do like it.

GARY if you read this note I hope you do something about it.
Because here at THE FREDDY LOPEZ SHOW has support your magazine for a long time. by advertising it on the show (and it came out of me). and its not fair that the magazine is not supporting us and showing us love.. the way we did show love to your magazine in my TV Program, even when you used to send me boxes of ur magazine for promo use only. every time I was performing I was carring with me the magazines to give it out to the public. Let's work together and help each other. I know its not your fault but you can fixed it.
Me as a PRESIDENT of a company if I see a problem I fixed it the same day. I am sure you can do the same your the boss.
take care

Your Friend.

missy at DMA!

lol,
ts ts ts.

all i got to say is ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

str8 up.

I stoped even reading or trying to find dma in miami...the only reason i still do, is actually cuz it suports the other sides and genres of the industry.

I used to have a column and was very involved in writing, interviewing etc artist and other things involving freestyle.
I was the head columnist at another miami freestyle website, before people like elissa (who i brought in), francis T. from france, or anyone else started writing for that site.

I left at a time when i wanted to branch into other parts of the industry and i have.

My writings used to be raw, str8 up, and would be contreversial.
str8 up from a miami latino point of view. others would not undesrtand.

but despite all, i covered as much as i could, everything from whats going on in the breaks scene, to what was going on in the fredy lopez, willie valentine, the santana/buffulo or mike lunn camps at that time. even talked about the past alot, even as far back when all first "real" freestyle artist were prodominantly african american.
i talked about the culture and the importance freestyle had in the dance music industry.

writing is a bitch (time wise). it aint easy, especailly when labels dont send promos etc.

i always had people send me stuff, even if i doged them out. they loved it. i was (and still am) a bitch!

now, i like many have sent material to missy. i have been told by other labels (both freestyle and breaks) that they have also. and she doese not even return phone calls or anything.

her work doese not amuse me. it bores me. im sure she is a nice person. but im not alone in my thoughts.

I dont give a horses ass how people are marketing, or about the numbers and retails and all that. im in the industry...i know all that. i want to know whats coming up in the world, who is coming up in the world. what is out there, no matter what style of freestyle.
i dont want to read columns that kiss up to people or are writen in a way, not to piss off the 15 fans she has.
there are over 1k hardkore latinhiphopers who have been neglected for over a decade now. now they call us ravers.what about us.

what about us, the REAL latin hiphopers... who were out there in the front lines, dodging bullets and avoiding the gang fights that where comon at any open air freestyle concert back in the day. originally, "our music", was the music of us Inner city youth in MIami and new york.

we look at it very diferent from those who claim it and discovered freestyle with collage.(it was a whole other world back then).

its reading columns like missy querry's that sort of make me want to get back into writing. but i gave it up and turned down many websites, magazines and zines.I rather focus on production and writing lyrics. thats where the talent is needed now , especially now more than before.

i hope missy querry changes her ways or doese somthing to spice up the columns. cuz, it looks like its a bad reflection on all of us.
and there are alot of things goingon in the world involving freestyle, just no one is looking out and writing about them.

but no disrespect to no one.......i just had to get this off my chest, now that i saw others do the same.

at least we still have a column in dma. but if things dont change, well, there might not be one soon.

(lol, if i ever wrote for dma, all hell will break loose. and i will LMAO! Miami style!).

Hey Rhoq,

I’m completely understanding your choice as for DMA, but I think it could be pretty cool to have you as columnist of “The Freestyle file”. But I’m not sure that the publisher of this magazine will accept your frank way to talk of Freestyle music in general. People from the industry won’t like your plain speaking and your honest point of view especially in such a famous magazine as DMA.
Maybe you should write on Groove Magazine, it could be a better choice. Peter Colon needs help and support for the third issue of his magazine dedicated to our music. The support is also more than welcomed from the Freestyle records companies which are in general very avaricious concerning the promos.:crap

So you don’t like the Freestyle comps from ZYX? You are the only one!!! Just kidding!!!

Jon,

I love your post. Just want to let you know because me too I know what you’re talking about.

Email me if you have time.

Hi Francis,

I see your point in regards to DMA, and I will keep in mind what you have suggested with Peter Colon's GROOVE MAGAZINE. Thanks.

There was a time when I enjoyed listening to ZYX Freestyle compilations. I admired some of their choices for the track selections. Once they ran out of ideas is when I stopped buying them. The last decent ZYX Freestyle compilation I heard was volume 8. I think they are up to 17 now. The last one I bought was 13 (but I skipped 9, 10 and 12).

🙂

You guys are right, I just read Missy's stupid column yesterday and I was appalled at the lack of ANY actual information. There was NOTHING in there! And there have been some freestyle releases. I just bought Freestyle Heaven vol. 4 last week which has some great songs on it and Kathy Phillips's single is supposed to be coming out soon... no mention of that.

Missy Wrote about us in 2000.

what did ever happen to benard rosenberg

Bernie B co-hosted a freestyle radio show in Toronto a few years back on (now defunct) Power 88.5. The show was called "Club Freestyle" 😀 Anyway, it only lasted less than a year and I believe he still does some DJing around.

JackG, I just read that link that Missy wrote about this site. I had no idea DJ Johnny Budz runs this site as well. Now that is Kool ! Is it just the 2 of you ?

Anyway, I'm glad others are seeing how useless Missy Query is to freestyle.
