8 of the 13 acts listed are not freestyle in any way whatsoever, yet they elect to use the term "Freestyle" to market it. So what is this saying then? And it really has me perplexed over why is it that this same label "freestyle" was blamed for destroying the careers of many freestyle artists by "pigeon holing" them into a certain category. And now peeps are going out their way to use it when it doesn't even apply. It really leaves a thinking man scratching his head just absolutely perplexed.

And maybe it's to trick the general public into thinking that all these other things are freestyle in an attempt to get the newer music (that's not freestyle) from the actual freestyle artists more accepted as freestyle cuz all this other urban music is supposedly freestyle, even though anyone who knows was up will always know what "freestyle" really is the second they hear the term mentioned.

I understand what your saying but looking at the show in a whole, its mostly freestyle. Aside from the mega headlining freestyle artists, theres not many groups or artists that can pull in a large crowd. these non freestyle artists went hand in hand with freestyle, the jungle brothers, bobby brown, mc hammer. bobby brown is worth the price of admission for this show. remember, Sal wasnt only freestyle when he had the DISCO FEVER back in the day. he had all types of acts and he was well known for giving hip hop a chance when no one else wanted to do so.

Kid.....Recycling the same freestyle acts over and over keeps costs down. Look at the lineups from all the Adam Torres shows and you will see what I'm talking about. There is a huge latino population in the Conn area especially in Hartford. You throw in some old school has beens along with a few Hip Hop legends and there is your concert. Do I agree...no... but it is what it is.

Hardcore freestyle concerts from back in the day are long from over. I just talked to Todd Terry yesterday and we were laughing about all the freestyle shit that once was back in the day..........I commend Kenny for keeping the website up and running but he knows as well as I do shit just aint the same anymore and never will be so we must all cherish the memories of the past and move on..........😉

You bring up some good points. And I'm amongst those who don't mind seeing rap acts perform next to freestyle acts. My post was intended to be focused more on the use of the term freestyle and how it went from something that actual legendary freestyle artist ran from back when the music could've still been saved to something that is exploited all the time whether or not it even applies.

In other words, FREESTYLE IS THE LEGACY. 😎

true, they (adam torres) should have been more careful when using the term "freestyle" when promoting the show but I guess he's used the title for so long, he didnt want to break it. yes, I wanted to see other freestyle acts that I havent seen in a while but remember, theres other shows to be done before the summer is over. Im making a special trip for this show and everyone knows I rarely leave the new york area much less long island!

I guess what I meant by taking issue with the title of the event was that it should be more properly called "Freestyle/Old School Hip Hop Extravaganza" and that would probably help them in their own cause (promoting the show better). With the title they chose, they're only targeting a certain segment of people whereas adding "old school hip hop" into the title would also target far larger segments of society.

I wasn't around clubbing or partying back in the mid 80s but I wouldn't doubt that when they had "Disco Fever", the term "Hip Hop" was used somewhere in the promotion of it.

Nevermind the fact that BOBBY BROWN is on the lineup. THAT MIGHT BE THE MAIN EVENT HEADLINE ACT OUT OF ALL THESE ARTISTS, at least from a certain perspective. And from that perspective they're better off having "OLD SCOOL" somewhere in the title. This might be a perfect example of the term "FREESTYLE" holding something's success back, not an actual freestyle artist being referred to as "freestyle".
