What do you guys think about these 2 genres of music being compared to one another? This person I know said that Freestyle and Spanish music are the same. Because they both are sung by hispanics, both have the same feeling when it comes to love..But, what do you think?

Don't really think they're the same, Crystal.
Most spanish Music is either Salsa, Merengue, Bachata,
Grupera, Techno-Cumbia, Ranchera, POP, Balads.

The Artists that sing this music may not really know
Freestyle like we all do here on CF. Except for those
Freestyle artists who have gone to those genres.
Or Vice-Versa. Which are few.

Of course there are also, some Freestyle Artists who have
recorded some of their Freestyle songs...IN SPANISH!
Those songs are pretty cool! Cuz when they REMIX them
They REMIX them in SPANGLISH! Which I love cuz, MOST OF US
LATINOS, in the US speak that way...HALF ENGLISH/HALF SPANISH!😛

To me Freestyle signifies Latinos, Latinas, spanish. 🙂

Always, being the true pioneers of this genre are Spanish.

Offtopic I just love when N.V. sings Spanish and English lyrics in his songs. 😀

I love when artists do that, its a super combo!

Have you heard LAWs "Missing your love" in spanish? OMG...I love it...LOL..But anyhows, your right, its not the same...Just the fact that they are hispanic, but thats it.....

I LOVE Spanish/English freestyle songs too!!

:hearton Those are my FAVORITE kind of mixes!! Oh yeah!!

I think the fact that Freestyle itself is heavily influenced by Latinos can give people the impression that it is the same as spanish music. But thats not the case. Freestyle is influenced by it, BUT many genre's of music take from eachother.
many of the latin music styles don't even sound alike...to the trained ear. most people can't tell the diff b/w salsa & merenge but there is a diff.

Your right philly...people just friggen confuse me sometimes..I know I can tell the diffrence though...lol

FOR REALZ!!

i think we really shouldnt say freestyle is a latin thing. it is mostly sung by latinos but what about the canadians, and the italians? its not like their not making noise to you know. theres also been freestyle music done by blacks for instance shannon and joyce simms who did a couple tunes back in their time. I also feel people shouldnt try and make this a one race thing for the reason that this music is in english for everyone in the united states to hear and if were gonna make this music alive again we cant be possesive. we gotta let others scope us out to. think mainstream.

Good Point

Orgntr1,

you're right. that was the point i was trying to make...that the influenec is there...NO doubt...But Freestyle is an Animal all unto itself.

as far as the industry...Italians are huge supporters...
thats all we used to listen back in the day...rolling around in the IROCs...cardigan....turtle neck, Cavaricci's..& Drakkar...LOL

I am not making fun...at all..that was me..& ALL my friends...

Jokes ARE made bout that stuff...BUT they are funny b/c they are SOOOO true!

I agree the influence has been around since the beginning like Nayobe cut Please don't go/No te vayas and you knew the words in english and spanish no matter what your origin was As like latin love & Diamond girl also had some cross singing on the dance floor. But not all songs had the latin feel. (not to start this argument AGAIN) Information Society for example, no latin feel to it. Sure latinos represent but so did alot of other groups as well.
