I read your (K7) post about how we should be proud of freestyle music and who we are. Were you showing how proud of being freestyle you indeed are by that "Forever" album which only had two freestyle songs and no real Latin Hip Hop banger? How can the artists who don't even want to make freestyle music expect us fans to be proud of it. I'm from the old school where we listened to hip hop, breaker tracks, and latin hip hop (freestyle). Remember uprocking, loft style, adidas with phat laces, and looking for the perfect beat? All these things are a part of Freestyle culture. For any type of music to be popular, it must develop and maintain an identity (something which freestyle did not do after the early 90s). A big reason why rap music is so popular now is because it paid its dues on the streets back in the 70s and 80s when most radio stations and tv were ignoring it. It kept it real and developed a street culture of its own that made other people admire it and wanna be a part of it. Freestyle tried to skip that step and has paid a very heavy price. Why do Puerto Rican rappers link with everything except Freestyle (which is supposed to be Latin Hip Hop)? Probably because due to freestyle's desire to be pop moreso than represent itself proud, freestyle has been flagged as some "weak s***" It's embarressing, especially considering how live and respectable freestyle once was. When the TKA Forever album came out, a lot of people viewed it as: if the FOUNDERS of Latin Hip Hop do not want to do that kind of music anymore, than should we really respect the gangsta on it or better yet, is freestyle really even Latin Hip Hop?

I agree with you freestylehead, how in the world are we supposed to support freestyle when alot of the artists are always swithcing styles. Don't get me wrong, i will always support freestyle no matter what but we should keep it real. There's only been few artists that have done that, i know some people will say it's all about making money(business) and that thats why they try new styles, but if it's gonna be like that don't go around telling other people(fans) to keep it real and not be ashamed of their music, when the artist themselves are not keeping it real. These are a few artists that have been very loyal to freestyle. Coro, Stevie B, Johnny O, Lil Suzy, KennyFreestyle and Adam Morano just to name a few, say what you want about these artists, but the fact remains whether you admit it ir not they have stayed true to freestyle. Like i said im not trying to dis any artists, i have the deepest respect for all the freestyle legends and even the new comers, Im just simply stating a point.

I agree with both of you guys,i'll be blunt and say their are alot of artists who are not realy standing up for freestyle, not saying any names. What we need is more artists like the one's listed above, they and a couple of more artists are the one's that are realy representing and trying hard to keep freestyle alive.
ROCK ON....... johnny O, stevie b, lil suzy, Adam marano, kenny and Tony moran.

I AGREE WITH YOUR POINT AS WELL, BUT i ALSO HAVE TO SAY, WHEN THE ABOVE ARTISTS ARE PERFORMING, HOW COME THERE AREN'T ALOT OF THESE"FANS" OUT THIER SUPPORTING THEM? UNLESSS IT'S A 10 ACT CONCERT HARDLY ANYONE GOES TO SUPPORT, BUT I CAN ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT THE SAME ARTISTS ALL THE TIME IS ABOUT AS EXCITING AS HAVING YOUR MOTHER IN LAW OVER FOR DINNER.

Well I have to dissagree for years acts such as TKA, Safire, NYasia, Fascination, Angel, Coro, Judy Torress etc etc have been doing there thing to try and keep freestyle aliv. They go out there put out great shows but where are the fans the "fans" supporting the freestyle, then people will say dayum all they do is perform the same old stuff why not any new material they bring new material out no one supports it because it dont sound like the old school stuff. So they are F***ed if they do and if they don't. Why they make the switches that shouldnt even be questioned there is no real fan base no support from fans why cut a new album when aint noone going to go to the shows to support what your doing wheather its old material or new. I keep in constant contact with artist people in the buz. So many have grown tired its impossible to keep something alive when everything is split two the fans alone are almost non existant and when I say fans I say those that go to the shows by the albums at least give the credit when an artist drops a new song WHY because they are trying, I have seen it so many times on the board an artist releases a single the feedback is negative as all hell and not once does anyone say "I wasnt feeling the song but she/he fgets props for trying to keep it alive. People continue to live in the past freestyle and if not they dont except the new. Keeping freestyle alive there are plenty trying ot do just that but they get NO aknowledgemnet because there songs are not repeatly played on the radio or they are not doing show after show. Nick Colon, Ashley, Latin Nation, Nuimage, these are new school artist not mentioned in your above list who are trying to keep it alive. Dont base the mere fact that the artist mentioned above are doing show after show as an example of an artist keeping it alive because then there are plenty more htat should be added if yuor basing it on recent material released. Johnny O got flack for some of his new material, Safire got shit for her new material. Keep it alive part of keeping it alive is aknowledging those who have attemppted too. Hip hop has gotten where it is because of many factors since the beginning of hip-hop numerous changes have taken place different styles have been created, it has entwined hip hop with other genres thats why it has grown and today it keeps doing as such from accoustic hip-hop, to hhip-hop with R&B, rock, pop etc etc. Yet the minute a freestyle artist attempts to change just a little of there sound they done sold freestyle out. We are loosing and have lost great freestyle artist because of the lack in support for just a little change. How many people switch genres back and fourth and there fans continue to show love.

Lil Suzy had a house track if I'm not mistaken produced by Johnny Budz-(she tried something new) and I liked it, even moreso than her freestyle stuff.

I also believe Coro's latest track is also not freestyle, not sure if it's coming out or if it did, (but he also tried something new) how is this keeping freestyle alive?

I just want to know what classifies keeping freestyle alive? cause every single one of them on the list as well as off the list have tried some thing different at one point or another, even myself.

Lissette
Tony Moran, was producing anything but freestyle for the last couple of years.
Judy
Johnny O
have all tried soemthing different tht isn't even remotely close to freestyle.

I get your point, it will always be tough for the artist cause most of the fans are living in the past, most fans are not interested in the new skool stuff that is ashame and it will be tough to change that. What i meant about the above artists is that I have not seen them abandone freestyle unlike others, alot of the artists that i mentioned have realesed new material now if it was popular or not thats a diff story, but they stuck in the whole time not giving up on freestyle. That i greatly respect, and mellow729 your right cynthia and judy aslo belong on that list as well as you Nyasia, you guys are what freestyle is all about.

Thank you Queenly, I also agree with you on it being ashame for the new freestyle artist, because some of them are really good, Marisol, Ashley, Nick Colon, these are the Cynthias, Safires, and George Lamonds of tomorrow, but it's so hard for them to get heard.

I just want to point out that there are different ways that fans can support their fave freestyle artists, both old school and new school. I tend not to be a club goer but yet I buy whatever music these artists put out, I try to interact with them online, I tell other people about their music, I request their songs on the radio, etc, etc.

Yes, naturally, freestyle fans would prefer if their fave artists continue to put out freestyle music. But these artists also have the right to venture into other areas of music, as well. For instance I am a huge George Lamond fan, and I have bought all of his albums, both freestyle and Latin. And even though TKA's last cd Forever wasnt really freestyle, they are still out there singing all their classic hits. So they are not straying away from freestyle nor are they denying that they are freestyle artists. Yes, it would be great to hear more true freestyle hits from all our fave artists, and hopefully they will fulfill our desires and put them out for us! Its a 2 way street between the fans and the artists!!!

WELL I AGREE, I WASN'T TO HAPPY WITH THE ALBUM, ESPECIALLY WHEN RADIO WAS PLAYING WHEN WILL I, A VERSION THAT WASN'T EVEN ON THAT ALBUM, WE ALL HEARD THAT SONG AND WE ALL THOUGHT THAT FREESTYLE WAS GONNA BECOME MAINSTREAM AGAIN BECAUSE THE LEGENDS ARE BACK AND THEY ARE HOT AS HELL, BUT WHEN THE ALBUM DROPPED WE ALL THOUGHT THEY FELL, MY OPION, I AM A BIG SUPPORTER TO THE FREESTYLE MARKET, HAVE BEEN SINCE DAY ONE, I SAW ALL THE CHANGES IT'S GONE THROUGH, AND A FEW YEARS AGO THERE WAS A FEW RECORDS THAT WERE NOT UP TO PAR BUT THERE WERE SOME THAT WERE, BUT RADIO DIDN'T CARE, WE AS FANS DID, SO I FEEL WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN A PURE FREESTYLE ALBUM BY TKA..

I've brought this up many times. I've even started threads on it. Whether it's a one person performance or The Diamante Show, I'm almost always there. There are so many tri-state fans, I just don't get it sometimes. As I always say when speaking on this particular topic: If freestyle totally fades away one day, don't complain that there are no performances to see 🙄 😡

Why the !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is it only me, Del, Chulo, Taz, Armando & Vinnie at The Diamante Show every month 😕

It's sickening...

😱 *<- running to thread right now*!..LOL:blah

Gal I feel you not everyone is an avid club goer you are one of the few fans that actually purchases CD wheather all the songs on the album are FS or not at least people should give them the respect for trying to do something they arent in denial about there FS roots. Alot of these artist put out FS albums the new school artist are doing what they can do and not once has anything they have put out gotten fair regular air play. To me going out to the clubs is one of if not the most important way to support an artist how else will other clubs book them if people dont come out and show that FS does and still has a strong following me personally feel and have seen for myself the following isnt that strong I go to just about every FS show that I can we post up and try and rally everyone into going and I can name everyone who goes out to the shows in NYC and out of NYC. On the radio all they play are the same songs over and over by the same artist rarely do they play anything new to the ear and there is new because we have so many new schoolers we have artist like Nyasia who just released two FREESTYLE singles, where is the support there hte props there. We are about to loose one of the mother of Freestyle who was there from its inception who opend the doors for just about every existing female freestyle artist out today. Where are her props for doing these shows including new material when she performs, where is her name at the top of everyones list of artist keeping FS alive yes I am speaking of Safire. The woman is retiring and not once have I seen her name come up on anyonse list of an artist who has truly tried her best to keep FS alive. I want to know what people base keeping freestyle alive as is it coming out with new material is it how many shows you perform in, is it how many times your album gets air play someone let me know cause I cant seem to understand what keeping freestyle alive means.

Let's not forget "CAN YOU STAND THE RAIN" by two major freestyle artists,(SAFIRE & CYNTHIA) the last Freestyle song addded to the radio. And the new one "Eyes of a Stranger" new freestyle sound.

How many Freestyle songs should be put on an album for them to be considered keeping it alive? I mean everyone is entitled to thier opinion.

my opinion...

i think its cuz peeps wanna hear more NEW freestyle trax, not the same old faves. Its nyce to hear them - but 50 million tymes? come on...get something new out!

its nyce to know that freestyle artists are keeping freestyle alive by producing/recording/writing material that is still freestyle - but is NEW (not remixes..too)! once this trend catches the attention of its market, i can def c it come back big! rite now all i c is "greatest hits"...peeps are getting bored!

Its nyce to have ur faves...but its even better to grow bigger with new material!

those are my 2cents...lol 😉

They have new stuff out Vixen, but it's just not good enough I guess.

I understand people want new FS but radio wont play it if it isnt conformed to what main stream is. In order for it to make a come back it has to be something the stations will play and lets face it fans wont support it because it wont be full blown FS. In the end you have to loose a little of what you are use to to gain a little more. Why is it the artist who have come out with full blown FS tracks arent heard, because radio isnt to keen on playing it. Its not a question about putting out more FS songs because plenty of artist have and are it just wont get played we have seen it over and over.
