Gay Pride Week is 6/20-6/26, so here is some gay trivia for you......😉

How did the Rainbow Flag become a pride symbol?

The Rainbow Flag as we know it today was developed by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker in 1978. At the time, there was a need for a gay symbol which could be used year after year for the San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade. Baker took inspiration from many sources, from the hippies movement to the black civil rights movement, and came up with a flag with eight stripes.

What do the colors of the flag stand for?

Hot pink for sexuality, Red for life, Orange for healing, Yellow for the sun,
Green for nature, Blue for art, Indigo for harmony, Violet for spirit. Later, the Indigo and Hot Pink stripes were removed, and it is now a 6 stripe flag.

How did the pink triangle become a gay pride symbol?

As most everyone knows, the pink triangle is a symbol taken directly from the Nazi concentration camps. Prisoners in Nazi concentration camps were labeled according to their crimes by symbols on their uniforms. Homosexual prisoners were labeled with pink triangles.

When did the word "gay" meaning homosexual, first appear in print?

Lesbian author Gertrude Stein wrote a short story called "Miss Furr and Miss Skeene", and in that story, she uses the word "gay" to mean homosexual, in 1922.

What city was the first in the United States to provide benefits to "domestic partners" of its employees?

The city of Berkeley, California was the first city to offer that protection to it's gay employess, in 1983.

What word can be associated to sports, crab cakes, rat races, but not gay people?

Olympics.......Over the years, there have been many events that use the word "olympics" for the titles. There have been the "Special Olympics", "Crab Cake Cooking Olympics", "Rat Race Olympics" but when gay atheletes organized the first "Gay Olympics", they were served with a court order not to use the word "olympics" in their title, or they would be sued. This is why this event for openly gay atheletes is called the "Gay Games".

And to finish off this post, here is a list of individuals from the past, who were gay.

Socrates-Greek philosopher Socrates is credited with refocusing philosophy away from science and toward ethics, and used questions, and studied the answers he received from his students to awaken the latent wisdom in them. It became knowns as the "Socratic Method".

Susan B. Anthony-Women's right activist who fought to give women the right to vote.

Alexender the Great-Alexander was a military genius who, in 11 years of warfare, never lost a battle.

Michelangelo-Michaelangelo became a world renouned artist creating the masterpieces, Bacchus, The Pieta, David, and painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Leonardo da Vinci-world renouned artist who created "Madonna Of The Rocks", "The Last Supper", and "Mona Lisa".

Wow....I had no idea Frisco has had Gay Pride since 1978. Also how funny that Berkly (10 min from San Fran.) was 1st in gay employment rights and not Frisco itself. Flag History was Intresting and so Was The Pink Triangle story.

Just last Week San Jose had the Down Town Gay Pride Festival With Lisa Lisa. But In San Fransisco......This week and last week it has been Phillipino Pride Festivals......Havent Heard anything on Gay Festivals in Frisco this month yet.

Listen, im entitled to my own opinion. It's like me saying that homos be hating on us straight folks! I didn't curse or anything like that. I aint hating but i dont like them either. Trust me when i start speaking hatred you'll know but thats not what i do. No disrespect to anyone im knew at this site, but i couldn't help this topic.

You're right, everyone is entitle to speak their mind(as long as no one is offeded). Maybe you could just choose your words carefully so that no one takes what you say the wrong way.

There's a # that Prevents HIV, wow... i didn't know all that.

Not all homosexuals are promiscuous. Just like not all hetero's are. AIDS is now spread more promeniently among the hetero community then it is the gay community. Atleast that's what the last stats that I've read stated. Things that make you go hmmm.

LOL @ Young Megatron! 😉

Alrighty then........

I try to do something for gay pride, and what do I get?

I can't say I'm surprised, just disappointed.

Lately, it seems like the more I am out, the more I run into these types of people.

There is a lot I could say, but it will only bring me down to a level that I have decided I no longer want to be at. I have heard that everyone has a cross to bear, and if this is my cross (dealing with hate) then so be it.

I've spent many years denying who I was, and feeling awful about it. If being out means dealing with this, then I would rather pick up my cross and be happy about it, than to deny it and be miserable.

To all of Clubfreestyle's gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered members, hold your heads up and and remember, how great you truly are!

:rafro :switch :rainbow

And never forget the straight friends we have who are behind us all the way!

:yeey

Well, Said Chuck!!! First of all, as far as posting the number for AIDS hotline those numbers are posted everywhere in a bar. Secondly, AIDS in the gay community has been on a steady decrease opposed it be on an increase in the female minority catogory. Chuck, really wasn't posting any personal views just some facts.
