Gay Pride Week is 6/20-6/26, so here is some gay trivia for you......😉
How did the Rainbow Flag become a pride symbol?
The Rainbow Flag as we know it today was developed by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker in 1978. At the time, there was a need for a gay symbol which could be used year after year for the San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade. Baker took inspiration from many sources, from the hippies movement to the black civil rights movement, and came up with a flag with eight stripes.
What do the colors of the flag stand for?
Hot pink for sexuality, Red for life, Orange for healing, Yellow for the sun,
Green for nature, Blue for art, Indigo for harmony, Violet for spirit. Later, the Indigo and Hot Pink stripes were removed, and it is now a 6 stripe flag.
How did the pink triangle become a gay pride symbol?
As most everyone knows, the pink triangle is a symbol taken directly from the Nazi concentration camps. Prisoners in Nazi concentration camps were labeled according to their crimes by symbols on their uniforms. Homosexual prisoners were labeled with pink triangles.
When did the word "gay" meaning homosexual, first appear in print?
Lesbian author Gertrude Stein wrote a short story called "Miss Furr and Miss Skeene", and in that story, she uses the word "gay" to mean homosexual, in 1922.
What city was the first in the United States to provide benefits to "domestic partners" of its employees?

What word can be associated to sports, crab cakes, rat races, but not gay people?
Olympics.......Over the years, there have been many events that use the word "olympics" for the titles. There have been the "Special Olympics", "Crab Cake Cooking Olympics", "Rat Race Olympics" but when gay atheletes organized the first "Gay Olympics", they were served with a court order not to use the word "olympics" in their title, or they would be sued. This is why this event for openly gay atheletes is called the "Gay Games".
And to finish off this post, here is a list of individuals from the past, who were gay.
