I was just curious as to what your opinions are on employment agencies. In another thread, we were talking about how many of us have been out of work for awhile. Well, I decided to try an agency today to see what they could do for me. I had been to agencies before and was not pleased with them but I went anyway and my feelings havent changed. I was trying to tell her what Im looking for but she kept telling me other things. Its almost like they want you to take anything because they dont want to be bothered trying too hard to find something that meet your specifications. I went in feeling confident and walked out feeling very frustrated. Maybe Im jsut better off looking on my own!

Sorry to hear your so frustrated, but I can relate. I quit one of my jobs in late April, and the job I still had was just barely a part time position, so when the semester ended for me, I decided to try an angency for the heck of it. I figured if I even got a temp job, that was better than no job. I walked in feeling the same way, hopeful, confident, even optimistic. Within 2 minutes of talking to the someone, all that went right out the door. But I figured I'd see where I could get hired and then go from there. Well within a week, I hadn't heard anything from them, so I called. They told me if I had called earlier in the week, they could have sent me on an interview, and I just wanted to scream at the lady WTF?...you were supposed to call me, not me call you. Needless to say, they basically did squat for me. But I have also had friends and family members go through an agency and it actually worked out well for them. My advice would be if you're going to go through the agency, try also looking on your own as well. Also, there are sites like Monster.com and stuff where you can post your resume online and weekly updates about jobs that meet your criteria are sent to you. Plus sometimes employeers themselves use the online resume and if they see somebody they think may be good, the company then contacts you. Best of luck to you during this time! It's frustrating, and I know sometimes it seems like nothing will ever happen, but just hang in there. 🙂 Hope that helps.

Sometimes it's best to do for yourself. Even if it means the hard labor that goes with it. You're the only one that knows what you want. These people that work in an agency are already working and collecting a salary. They don't really care about you. Plus only you knows what makes you happy! I've been out of work a year and I just keep trying! Good Luck! 🙂

DreamGirl...you hit it right on the head!! They are supposed to be looking for YOU but YOU have to chase after THEM!! I know what I want/need in terms of hours, slaary, etc and it just seemed like she didnt want to hear it! I agree with you and LaBetty...I will continue to look on my own because at least I know what Im looking for. I just dont know if I completely trust them!

It's like the saying goes "life is a gamble".....so if you don't try you will never know! 😉
