Early Freestyle Production

Can anyone tell me what early freestyle producers used? Like what keyboards did they use was it a Emax 2 or Prophet 5 or what. And what drum machines
did they use. I am working on a freestyle type project and was wondering. Does anybody know? Was there any analog effects they favored.
