It doesn't matter if you're a man or woman, if you love the music, you'll be a great DJ. It just takes patience and practice. Once you get good, it's a great feeling.

Good Luck

Yeah..its easy for anyone to learn..it just takes a hell of alot of practice...but i suggest staying in school and learning how to spell..LOL

There are two types of DJ's.
1) one collects records
2) one actually utilizes the turntables as if he/she where operating like a doctor.
Which one do you want to be?

Why not. Being a DJ, a good one takes a great mind and willing to practice. There are many types of DJ's from personality types, break mixers ( mix one song to the next within the breaks of the record), remix DJ (Basically taking bits and pieces of songs to make a new song almost -quick mix) and finally a trickster or a turntablist ( almost the same as the previous but creating new sounds and scratches and altering music to create a masterpiece for show casing)

My advice, go for it. It is fun. You will learn new skills that could apply to other things or even evolve into something great. Take a look at the great producers of freestyle, where did they start? if the answer was DJ, you might have found a wonderful career. =)

I would love to teach a female how to DJ. I've been in the business for so long, that I could teach someone who was willing to learn, in fact I've been looking for someone to teach, but unfortunately they did not have the determination or the willingness to learn. In my opinion...the female would have a better advantage if they were to learn how to DJ, in getting bookings. Being that there are very few female DJ's...the demand is greater. Think about it...how many peeps would go see a female spin....especially if she could rock the crowd. Let's not even talk about if she was hot which is a bonus, but to me skills are way more important. Look at DJ Irene & DJ Mia...both females & both in demand!!! Good luck LaFreak if u should decide to pursue it!!!!

i seen a lot of girls who dj and they are nice in the mix, so djin' has no gender..

Sounds like you want to do more than just DJ, just feel it hun, if you do and you flow there be heads for the vibe you throw. Get out to clubs get to know promoters have demos to hand out get to know the club jocks, go to trade shows enter thier contests. I won the the DJ times vinyl spinoff in atlantic city back in '99 and though I did well and brought the skills there were other djs who didnt place and said i won only cause I was a girl. It didnt bother me cause I knew what I brought to the table but that sentiment has come across more than once my way. Sometimes guys get thier feathers bunched when a woman wins a spot over them regardless of her skills they will play her down. BUt that isnt everyone. If you got skills its all good and if you got production skills as well even better. Sometimes it works in reverse in my case I learned alot of my production end and mix skilz from guys who thought it was cool for a girl to learn from them and loved it if they created a musical monster. I had a friend who told me he prefered a females flow better, I dont know about that I dont think I cant tell a style difference between men and woman all I care about is music and bringing out of me what im feeling and that someone else digs what I am feeling.

Ahoy hoy...yes I'm back with another attack (not really, it's just advice).

Male, Female, Child, or Fossil...it doesn't matter. I mean the technical aspect of it (using the equipment) is not hard to conquer. How ever if you are going to mix freestyle, good luck on finding the records. As long as you can tap your feet to the tempo...you can mix. Just learn a little bit more about beats...the way they are composed. Such as, some records will have breaks for 32 beats (or 8 Bars) and some others will have 64 beats (or 16 bars). Mixing is an art form, I don't give a flying you know what as to what people say. You have to know what song will match (key, melody, beat timing, and such) with what. I have heard some DJ's blend 2 songs together that simply did NOT deserve to be blended with each other...the melodies clashed, and it sounded horrible. I have been mixing (purely as a hobby) since I was about 11 (I'm 19 now) and I'll never stop.Anyhow, I don't mean to be long winded, I say get 1200's...a decent mixer...and spin away. I'm sure that people on CF will be more than happy to help you with any questions. I mean I will too, but I'm rarely on CF anymore. Good luck with your quest. Have fun.

I agree,
good DJing is an art form.. you must learn the beat, tempo's, breaks.. but once you do and you have a genuine love of music and have the dedication needed I think you should go for it. If for nothing else, but the pure satisfaction on knowing you can..

Being a Dj: Knowing how to read a crowd--knowing what to play and when to play it-having the balls to break new music and not be a follower of those who already broke it......being the ultimate entertainer, in essence you are the Pied Piper and the masss move to what u dictate they hear...........in the end, it's all about the music and how u deliver it
