I'm 39, married and w/ two great kids (7 and 3). My club heyday was back in the '80s....generally '83 through '89 or so...so I guess you can say that I was there when "freestyle" (though no one referred to it as that back then...it was just the new dance music that incorporated latin rhythms and hip hoppy beats to electronic music and was generally faster than old disco but not quite as fast as hi-nrg or Euro - it was the music that was becoming really hot in NY/NJ when the old "Hot 103" started out) started catching on.
My prime clubs were The Underground and Passion in Fairview, NJ, though I also hit many of the others - Studio 54 and Xenon shortly before both closed, City Lights down in central NJ, Gambits in Tarrytown (The Marriott), and lots of others.
It's encouraging to learn that this great music is still being kept alive. I think things have turned too far toward hip hop and roughneck rapping and I miss the melody and the true danceable beat, not to mention the hot styles and passionate vocals.
I am so happy I found this place. I plan to participate often.
~cozmikchuck~ (Italian/American from NJ w/ latino rhythm! LOL! Well, I guess latinos originated over in Europe...LOL! )
