Chico DeBarge/Degarge question..

What nationality are they???
This has been burning in my mind for YEARS!
Some have said they are:
Latino
Mulatto
French
& just plain African-American

But with a last name like Debarge, still makes me wonder, they must be mixed.
All in all, they are a very good-looking group of guys & girls (especially my Papi, CHICO! - lol)
Anyone know what they are & originally from?
