I have a question for ANYONE that is interested in the growth of freestyle music and developing talent:
How do you feel about performing for benefits and causes?
In addition to being a singer, I am a middle school teacher in South Jersey. During the past 2 weeks, the schools have thrown BENEFIT parties for two causes. The first one was in a club and it benefited a high schooler who has cancer. Now, my principal just told me of a new benefit for a girl whose family lost a house in a fire this weekend.
BOTH times I've thought of all of my freestyle buddies. Could I get them to do a benefit?
The way a benefit concert HELPS an artist is by providing exposure, especially to YOUNG KIDS. These kids NEVER see freestyle on MTV, so they aren't consumers, but if they saw an artist LIVE, they might become fans.
Also, the schools are in the same town as The Music Factory, one of the best freestyle music outlets in South Jersey.
The media companies know that KIDS control the pockets of parents, and they market to young audiences. Why don't freestyle artists do the same? NSYNC, BSB, etc. started their road to fame by singing in schools and malls.
I don't propose anyone do that now, but is a benefit concert with 2 or 3 artists out of the question?
( As an artist, I did several benefits and I still remember singning hundreds of autographs and meeting with hudreds of people - Remember Lancaster PA?)
Please give me your thoughts and if it's a possibility.
Peace!
