This month issue of VIBe features Afrika Bambaataa in the "Start" section. This is the same section of the magazine that featured Lisa Lisa recalling her freestyle memories not too long ago.

Start/domepiece: The Foundation-Afrika Bambaataa as told to Kimberly Burgess (p.130 VIBE Magazine September 2003)

It all started with him, the Godfather of Hip Hop. Afrika Bambaataa deejayed South Bronx park jams in the 70's with his eclectic mix of "break" records that included eveyrthing from the Andy Griffith Show Theme to Sly and the Family Stone. A former gang banger (I guess they must always throw in something negative), Bambaataa (Kevin Donovan) founded the Universal Zulu Nation to combat crime and drug dealing in his neighborhood. The Nation later became worlwide ambassadors of hip hop culture. Bam's 1982 hit "Planet Rock" hit No. 4 on Billboard's Top R&B Singles chart, went gold the same year, and inspired electro-funk, Miami Bass, and freestyle.

And I'm gonna end it on that cuz you get the point now. 😉 ...and my hands are getting tired 🙁

The rest is an interview with him talking about back in the day. I thought it was pretty interesting. Also wanted to post it to show another publication that's giving a more positive spotlight to freestyle's legends (every now and then).

Who woulda thought, Afrika Bambaataa's real name is Kevin Donovan? lol

They have done so many great things; I even liked their 90's eurodance ventures like the international mega hit "Feel The Vibe".
