I heard a version of this song (not India's) that sounded older than the other version India did.

My opinion: I love this version alot more than India's! Hand's down. Beautiful freestyle!

I was wondering who was the original singer of this song cuz I have no clue who this is. Going by the sounds in this song I can say that this was probably an '84 or '85 release.

So anyway, does anyone know who the singer is?

Are you sure that you don't have a remake of the original? I remember the original of that song coming out around 88 which is not that far off in years from what your asking.

India is the original artist

undefinedIndia is the original recording artist for Dancing on the Fire. There were a number of remixes and one Spanglish version (half Engish and half Spanish.

I don't believe that.

This version sounds original to me. If anything, India bit this one off from the version i'm talking about.

The singer sounds like a black lady.

The Original Was Done By John Robie And Jellybean Released In 1984 On The Wut Up Ski Album...it Was More Electro Just Like The C-bank Stuff Of That Time

LOL.......I was right!

I would have to say though. If this original version by John Robie is electro.......then "let the music play" would have to be electro too!!

The vocalist on Jellybean's original 1984 version of "DANCING ON THE FIRE" is Audrey Wheeler. 😉

LOL! I knew Rhoq would come in here and straighten things out.

I was kind of sour about so called "John Robie" as being the vocalist of the original since the chick that I hear sounds black. Audrey Wheeler sounds good. 😉

The lead singer from the wonderfull N.Y. group from the early 80´s...Unlimited touch...

I grew up in the 70´s and 80´s...and i´m closed related to the street funk music from this era...LOL

Who remember : "Searching to find the one....& I hear music in the streets...
...and the answer rap 12" - "Searching rap" by Bon rock and the rhythm rebellion...from 1981...LOL

1984 : Then i heard "Dancing on the fire" on the Wutupski" album by John "Jellybean"....i was just like...wow!!! - Audrey Wheeler on lead vocals!!!...on an electro track, now that was "new" back then...😉

Yeah. It was the start of something fresh and good. I like this version better than India's. The Original vocalist and the music as well went hand in hand. It's a mixture of breakbeat and freestyle. I would say more freestyle than breakbeat considering freestyle heads think of "honey to a bee" by tina b as a complete freestyle track when it is in fact a mixture of freestyle and breakbeat. You can just tell that India's version wasn't the original when you hear this tune.

The 1st version (1984) was "just another" John Robie production...similar in the sound to : C-Bank (One more shot & Get wet), Jenny Burton (Remember what you like)...and Tina B (Honey to a bee)...it was latin hip hop/freestyle before latin hip hop errrr...freestyle...if ya know what i mean...LOL!!! 😉
