about freestyle, radio airplay, and KTU

i saw this on a radio messageboard, where Jeff Z of KTU in New York posted a message as to why they play what they do. there are some people in there who always post about their underground dance music and whining about wanting to hear more underground dance music and less freestyle, always putting down freestyle. anyways, there are some posts, Jeff Z explains why KTU plays what it does, and then DJ Johnny Budz of KTU comes in and talks about freestyle and new freestyle. there was one comment that stuck out. he posted in response to the first paragraph (Johnny's post is the second paragraph)-

"You're absolutely right. Its a major problem with freestyle. Owning a label is very expensive, as is promoting your product. I get producers/singers ask me why i never played their song, i tell them its because i never even had

NOW THIS IS ME (CAFREESTYLER) TALKING AGAIN-
this is kinda scary, if we want freestyle to get on radio, yet many labels don't get their music to one of the biggest stations in the U.S. and one of the only djs on that station who plays freestyle. i wonder how many of the smaller stations received new freestyle if KTU didn't even get it.

thats the only thing i can agree with!!!!

people say that it doesnt go on, that its against the law...yeah right...if drug companies do it to doctors i am sure record companies do it to radio stations

Unfortunately Payola has been around for along time. The only reason that Rap didn't succomb to this was the fact the DJ's broke the records, Clue Flex if it was hot its on thier tapes/cds at everycheck cashing spot in the city! The Rap artists djs & producers learned from Russell Simmons. f#%^ THE Big labels the street is who you sell to and the jocks play it at the club and then when they get thier spot on the air at a mixshow they blow up an unkown. then the feedback to the station and Labels. The only problem is we don't have a DJ on KTU who is willing to buck the playlist and say "youjust heard so and so show them love buy thier tracks go to thier show they'll be at.... And the new mix tape is out and its on there too.

That is the cheapest form of promotion. Its looking out and support. Funny how it works for hip hop but no one is doing it for us.
