Tips for recording vocals

Is there any tips for recording vocals, effects and equipment? Also how should you record the main vocals, backgroud, and chorus parts.

backgrounds quieter, maybe have some sort of different arrangement note-wise, so that it gives it the harmony effect.

Chorus vocals - clear. Maybe 2 or 3 vocals mixed together for chorus to give power. 2 or 3 backgrounds mixed in, sung at a different pitch to help w/ the harmony effect.

I should produce vocals!!

there's alot more to recording great vocals than just preparing good arrangements..you'll also need the tools in which to capture the best sound possible.

let's start with a decent MIC (Microphone)..i would Recommend an AKG 414 EB it's a condenser (not a tube Mic)..it's a great all-purpose mic..i own one and i love it..works on pretty much anything and anyone..price:$1000 to $1500.

you might want to use a "front End" piece to warm up and compress your vocals..i would recommend an Avalon 737st Tube Mic Pre/compressor/limiter/Eq with phantom power an excellent soundng front end piece for that application...Price:$1100 ....try not to use your console mic pre's unless you have nothing else to use..they really suck in quality and sound..(unless you own a Neve or an SSL..lol)

last but not least...you'll need a decent digital recorder...there are some pretty awesome Digital Audio workstations (DAW)..you might want to start out with something practicle like Cubase $300 to $400 or perhaps something like Digital Performer 4 which is a little more advanced in it's features $500...OR..if that's not quite enough to handle your work, you might want to think about Logic Platinum..by far the best DAW system out there and an awesome system to consider...i like to keep my work in the universal realm..so i use a combination of an Akai MPC 4000 for sampling and sequncing and Pro-Tools as my recorder/editor...works for me..use what works for you!

good luck!

Edwin

Thanks Edwin! Just maybe alittle much for someone as myself. Basicly I was referring to effects on vocals and if you should double the vocal tracks at all. You know the simple stuff that you may have tryied when you first played with some equipment...
